My dh and I have decided to CD the new babe and also switch our toddler to CDs. My dh says he's OK with it but then he asked (nicely of course) if we could keep Huggies on hand "just in case".
Which do Dads like best - CD or Disposables? Reasons? Thanks!

i'm not male, but from my dh, he said he doesnt mind either.........but that being said, he hasnt really changed more than 5 diapers since ds was born

I think AIO's would work great for the dad thats used to sposies, since they are similar.

my DH likes the cloth (it was actually his idea to start CDing) as long as we keep it simple. He doesn't like pins or too many steps to follow. LOL. A prefold with a BSWW or a FB is good enough for him.

My wife and I tried cloth when our second was born but they were a pain in the butt. Literally
. My girls were getting bad rashes and they were always pulling at them. Both my kids have had almost no rashes since we went to disposables and they leave them alone. You pay for the convenience but in our case it is worth it. My oldest has been potty trained for almost a year now. So with just one in diapers it's a lot less expensive.

Hope this helps.

My husband doesn't like our cloth diapers very much either, he has a tendency to reach for the disposables. So I hide 'em.

Actually I just found some chlorine free disposable diapers at Henry's and I don't mind him using those as much. They are pretty expensive though.

My son's bum has never touched a disposable.

I thought the answer to cloth diapering was All in Ones. After a week of those I was done... You need like eleventeen million of them or you have to do laundry 2 times a day AND they take forever to wash and dry (a bad combo).

I thought the answer was Pocket diapers... 1 diaper change in those and I was done, you are like required to get pee and-or poop all over everything with pocket diapers AND you can't reuse the cover so you need like 10 times as many.

The one thing that I LOVE is using a prefold and a prowrap. We have some other covers and they are fine... Fleece covers are nice for when he is a little irritated, but for ease of diapering, cleaning, laundering, hampering, etc etc I choose Prowrap + prefold. (We do fitted + prowrap at night)
The funny thing is that even mamas on here don't do it as easy as we do (which works awesome) We use no snappi, no pins, nothing but a prefold and cover. It is cheap and easy once you get the hang of it. We used to even prefold up the prefolds in the covers and that is almost as good as all-in-ones for ease of putting on. The best part is, you never have to touch a pee soaked or poopy diaper if you don't want to... I always just hold it by the cover and dump it in the bag.

I have always done almost all of the diaper changes when I am home so my wife was pretty good about finding a solution I liked...
We could have saved a lot of money if we would have skipped the expensive "fancy" stuff that doesn't work for me and gone straight to the cheap covers+prefolds.

And of course EC makes any kind of diapering a lot easier... we have been down to only a couple of poopy diapers a month for a long time now

Disposable diapers make me sad for baby's skin, they smell bad, and they are a sorry waste of the Earth.

At home, we do cloth. A spray hose on the back of our toilet is very nice these days. We took cloth on a vacation for 2 weeks. The beach house had a w/d there and it was just more trouble than it was worth having diapers EVERYWHERE. That was with 1, we now have 3 kids. We'll be most likely taking the cloth ones with us but also taking a big package of disposables as well.

It really doesn't matter to me as long as it's easy.

My dh hates sposies. He thinks that they smell, cost way too much money, and are terrible and unnecessary on our enviroment. He's always been too chicken to try out a prefold and cover though. So we've always used pockets (mostly fuzzi bunz). He changes more diapers than I do, so only using pockets was fine with me. I've seen him get into some very amusing debates with people about why cloth is the (only) way to go.

Cloth all the way.

Moose, to avoid rashy butt use a hypoalergenic detergent. We use Bio Pac. We also use a capfull for a large load of water. It is concentrated but we use less than the lable says, as you need to with any detergent washing cloth diapers. If all the soap isn't rinsed out, our dd's butt gets rashy.

It could have been a food sensitivity. The disposals wic away the liquid from the skin and it isn't in contact with the food waste like it is with cloth. Tomatoes and citrus used to rash up our wee ones butts due to the concentration of acid.

Cloth saves the bucks. Especially if you can dry outside. The sun does a great job at sanitizing and de-staining, too.

Our son has only had cloth.

The idea of putting plastic on his bum seems repulsive to me, although everyone else we know only use disposable.
For us, it was an environmental as well as comfort issue. Less garbage for us and the planet, and soft cloth for his rear-end. Win-win!
An unexpected plus is that as DS has gotten older, he has grown to know and love his own diapers. When they are clean in the laundry basket, he enjoys going through them and playing with them. And he gets a kick out of watching them being washed.

We've tried about every variety of CD. All-in-ones didn't work too well. We have some pocket diapers. Lots of the ones that just wrap around and use a prefold or insert, and waterproof covers. DW makes her own diapers and covers when she has the time, just using recycled fabric.

We also make use of one of those sprayers that rdl2k5 mentioned. DW found it on ebay, made by an Australian company...something about 'nappy sprayer' or some such thing. It is simply a hose with a nozzle that hooks into the water supply for the toilet. Takes about 5 minutes to install. Pretty handy for some diapers

Good luck with it!

My DH likes cloth, but wasn't into changing anything with snaps. Now we have Bumkins- he prefers those, but doesn't mind too much a prefold in a vecro wrap. Just so there are no snaps
