NEW YORK - Women are not alone in suffering postpartum depression - a "strikingly high" number of new fathers are affected as well, researchers reported Monday.

In a study of more than 5,000 U.S. couples that had recently had a baby, 14 percent of mothers and 10 percent of fathers were found to have significant levels of depression.

The percentage of affected women was in the expected range based on past research, but little has been known about fathers' risk of depression after the birth of a child.
Mind you only a serious pussy would admit to being depressed. A real man just swallows all his anxieties down into the pit of his stomach. It hurts but you get used to it.

Seriously, though, after ours were born (especially the second one), looking back I'm pretty sure I had a serious bout of depression. At the time I just figured I was being an asshole, though.

ROFL

But seriously. Many of the same conditions that contribute to PPD in women are experienced by men as well - its a major change to one's lifestyle - why shouldn't they also experience it? It makes sense that when depression decreases a partner's ability to be responsive to and meet the other person's needs in a way that they used to before the birth, that loss of the same level of support would cause depression to spiral a bit in both partners.

I don't know..I am starting to agree.

I don't think man bashing is cool on a thread about male depression.
