How's everyone doing today?

I called about scheduling my ultrasound today and it proved to be more of a hassle that its worth. They want me to see an OB prior to the ultrasound and are freaking out that I haven't had an ultrasound until now, like the universe is going to implode or something. I explained that I didn't even have an ultrasound with my son until 20 weeks and they were SILENT, like it was the most insane thing they had every heard. I have one other facility that I can try but if they end up giving me a hassle as well I will just pay out of pocket at a clinic that does prenatal care for 50% off. Such BS.

In other news, babe must have been transverse this morning because when I turned over I felt lots of kicks against my arm. DS loves to cuddle with my belly now and I think its because he can hear my heartbeat through my uterus, he always makes this little cooing noises when he lays there. He and his sibling must have ESP

That is so sweet about your ds! E mostly likes to hit my belly. And he keeps lifting my shirt or shoving his hands down the neck of my shirt. I think he's trying to figure out why there is so much, more, of everything!

I think I'm getting over my cold. Knock on wood. It hasn't been too bad thank goodness. But night before last, I felt like I was sleeping on a tilt-a-whirl! I was so dizzy. Nasty feeling.

I am going to try and get my kitchen clean today. I had it clean before Thanksgiving, and through that weekend, but then my IL's left and I didn't keep up with dishes. If it hasn't fit in the dw, it hasn't had much chance of getting washed.

Oh, and we are hoping to hear from the bank about the house we are trying to buy. It's a short sale, so their bank has to approve our offer. Dh talked to the owner Saturday, and he seems to think we've got it. Just waiting for that phone call. I'm so excited! We could have a new house for Christmas.
:
I just need to get on the phone and find painters. The whole interior needs to be repainted. Not even gonna try to do that ourselves. But we do have to rip out all the carpet. They had several dogs and cats. Ugh. I love animals, but I think they should be, um, trained?
So, so much work to be done, but we really just want to be able to get started instead of sitting and waiting, waiting, waiting.

What a hassle Katie!! Thats why my midwives sent me 1.5 hours away to an independant clinic to get mine done. The didn't bat an eye about not having an OB. I guess the midwife clients always get hassled when they go to the local hospitals for u/s. Hope you can find a way to get it done easily!

Very exciting about the new house RasJane!! What will you put in for flooring?

Katie, that's adorable about your son. My DS likes to kiss my belly over and over, it's actually almost painful on my sensitive skin.

RasJane, I hope you get the house, that's exciting! I'm sorry you're feeling sick.

I'm sick today and whiney about it. No one I know is sick, how come I have to be the one to get a stomach bug? Not fair.
Now I'm just hoping it's a 24 hour thing, not something that's going to last for a while.. I don't have time to be sick. It's also freezing here, I'm so glad I don't have to go out today!

We have Tricare insurance through the military and it is such a hassle, I will most likely go with the independent clinic as you have and hopefully it will be covered.

Fingers crossed for the house RasJane, hope it all goes smoothly and you're in your new house quickly!

We are moving to a new house on Sunday so I am busy packing today and the rest of the week, seems like lots of us are moving!

A friend of mine just went for her 37w appt on Friday, and there was no heartbeat. Her baby had died, so she was induced and gave birth to her on Saturday. It is so heartbreaking.
Thats heartbreaking lissa. It seems like in every DDC here there are at least one or two mamas who lose their little ones at the end. Its so sad and makes me paranoid. I never even though about the possibility when I was pregnant the first time.

Hi everyone.

So sad about the still birth. I had terrible anxiety and paranoia from hearing so many sad stories, but I had a great visit with my midwife and am feeling more at peace and confident with homebirth again.

Katie, I can relate to the ultrasound dilemma. We recently got new insurance, which isn't so great, so I have been trying to find providers and figure out what does and doesn't go towards the ridiculously high deductible. I literally spent hours on the phone with the insurance company, a different company that lists providers for them, and my docs billing office. . . and I have gotten nowhere. I was hoping that I could possibly save money by using my insurance (isn't that why I have it), but I will continue with my ultrasound that is done through a midwife group, and I will pay out of pocket. Ugh!

RasJane, so exciting about the new house. I hope you get that call soon! I sooo want to move before baby is born.

BTW, I have had a weird craving for meatballs lately. I haven't eaten a meatball since I was a young child. Weird! Anyone know any good and fairly simple recipes?

lissa - so sorry to hear about your friend. I wish no one had to go through that.

RasJane - hope you get good news on the house!

This morning I had the joy of dry heaves.
I had some dairy yesterday and I think it added to my already increased quantities of phlegm. Clearing my throat triggered my gag, which has happened before but never to the heave ho stage. Felt like my stomach was going to come out my throat. Poor baby must've wondered what in the world was going on. Still feels like it's trigger happy although it hasn't happened thank goodness. Off to take a little nap before my next client

We've been sick here too. Just a cold but still annoying, particularly since coughing is making *me* gag/heave/puke (depends on the moment). I miss the cold. It's so strange, still, to look outside and see no snow!
On a personal note, who'd have thought we'd meet again via an MDC ddc?!

lissa, I'm sorry to hear about the loss of an unborn LO you knew. You and the LO's family and other friends will be in my thoughts.

Thinking about your friend Lissa. My aunt had a still birth when I was younger, it was her only daughter, I don't remember much I think I was 6 but they still visit her burial on her birthday. Now that I am a mother I could understand just how hard it could be
.

This is my absolute favorite recipe Giada's Turkey Meatballs. I usually skip the pecorino and I grate the garlic and onions so I dont have to dirty a knife. They are so juicy and flavorful
:!

Good luck with the house. We are trying to sell and move also. We have a realtor coming Friday.

Ditto, ditto, ditto.

So, I'm jumping in to the weekly chat thread for the first time - HI!

I just finished shovelling a carpload of snow, and now the driveway and walkway and sidewalk ARE COVERED IN SNOW AGAIN. Holy moly.

I'm feeling quite pregnant, huffing and puffing around and getting backaches - though I suppose snow shovelling can do that at the best of times! I also dragged DS around the neighbourhood on his sled - phew. I don't usually work this hard!

That's a lot of work mama! Wish I had somebody to pull me around in a sled

I wish we had snow!
They say MAYBE friday, but I doubt it. It's just not cold enough and it's raining so with the cloud-cover it generally stays warmer.

ETA: Ooooooooh I just checked the forcast again and we're supposed to be -10°C by Sunday so maybe it will snow next week!!!

That sucks Limabean. we got snow for the first time last night, just enough to shovel, but still not a lot, so shovelling was easy.
You mentioned in another thread how little snow you get Lissa. As I said there, I think I know where you live!

Snow was all about FUN when I lived in an apartment in Toronto and rode the subway, never drove. Snow partnered with home ownership and lack of good public transportation starts to lose the magic! Though it is fun to see DS rolling around in it, "helping" me shovel, and getting happy rosy cheeks.

eta: For those of you with lots of snow, last year I resisted thinking it was just too large, but this year DH got something like this, and it really makes the shovelling easier and faster once you get the technique down pat.

For some reason, I get the feeling of a certain city when I see your name, but I have no idea if you live there or not.

No snow here, though I have heard that we usually get one ice storm a year and everything shuts down. I miss seeing snow but I don't miss shoveling it. We had a snow-blower at the last house we lived in in NY and it made life a lot easier, I even liked doing it because it got me outside for a couple of hours and gave me some alone time.
We're having a nice beautiful mild snowstorm. I am in awe. This is my first storm since moving into this "treehouse" and I'm loving it! (Especially since my DH works in the basement so we never have to leave the house!)

We also got our plow truck running last weekend so we can plow our driveway and road! Its been in the single digit temps here though.

Hi everyone. I met my DH for lunch today
. It was fun.

So I've been getting a bill for a copay from the birth center and didn't pay as they agreed I shouldn't be getting any (just the receptionist). I finally talked to the billing lady and she said what I was billed a copay for was for gyne care when I went in for bleeding at 10 weeks, three days before my first appt. She said they did a wet mount and it was for vaginitis (what is that? a yeast infection?) and was not related to pregnancy. It confused me and I pressed it some but didn't get anywhere. But the m/w did the cervical exam and skipped it at my first appt since it was done at the bleeding appt. Oh well!
