Dairy free...pizza?

Our poor 4 year old. His favorite food in the world is cheese pizza.

We've picked up a couple of dairy-free 'cheeses' and oh boy, do they taste like, I dunno, cardboard dunked in spoiled tofu, aged to mush, and baked to odd-tasting imperfection. They even leave scary oil traces on the cutting boards. So weird.

Anybody have a quick fix for this one? My dough recipe is already dairy free so it is just a matter of figuring out how to replicate the cheese pizza experience or find something that makes the whole thing better. The biggest hangup is that 6yo DD would throw a major fit if we made pizza and didn't make any 'cheese pizza', but if we made one for her, the 4yo would be very upset because that's *his* favorite, too! We really don't want to turn pizza night into a problem, but we don't want to give it up either (we make a mean pizza, beats out all the local pizzarias).

We're not sure whether his allergy extends to goat milk and in a couple weeks we will probaby try that out, and hope for the best. If he's not allergic to that, we're back in business.

what about a cheese made with nutritional yeast??? defenitely not cheese...but a cheesy taste
Most of those veggie cheeses still have casein. And they are NASTY! Have you tried Tofutti yet? It's pretty good.

Those soy based "veggie shreds" aren't bad. A little salty, but if you cut down on the salt in the sauce that might work. I don't mind them, and my kid's friends that are dairy free seem to enjoy them (even the recently dairy free 3 ane 5 year olds.)

Don't those have casein in them?
Yeah, most of the veggie cheeses I have looked at have casein in them. I was looking at the ingredient list and thinking...WTF? Including those "veggie slices" and like products.

Right now I have a Galaxy Nutritional Foods product (a cheddar lookalike) and it is NASTY. Just...GROSS. And this is discouraging because after our first experience with gross-tasting cheese substitute we tried something that looked completely opposite, and now this is gross too.

Will the nutritional yeast actually create a decent taste experience for them?
A friend of mine here has a daughter who is sensitive to milk. She's not what I would call allergic because she can tolerate it, but the mother avoids it. She highly recommends rice cheese; she said it's the only one she found that doesn't taste like wax , and it actually melts.

I think it does have casein though, and I don't know how detailed you've gotten with determining what triggers the T-boz.
I've got a rice milk cheese that doesn't have casein in it.

Nutritional yeast on popcorn tastes an awful lot like the SmartFood White Cheddar popcorn, so it may be good enough on a pizza. Not melty, but a nice flavor.
We make homemade pizzas all the time. My dude is allergic to cheese, and I am an "aspiring vegan." We use Veganrella. I have a salad shooter, and I buy a chunk of the Veganrella - shred it - and use it like regular mozzarella. The kids and I eat that and dh eats cow cheese on his. We all make our own pizzas usually and making it is half the fun for the kiddos. I actually like the Veganrella, and I normally just avoid cheese alternatives. It doesn't taste like Mozzarella, but it melts well (doesn't really brown like mozzarella though), and I like the taste of it and so do the kiddos.
Hey, I just realized that my little guy and yours are only seven days apart in age!
