I use seventh generation disposables and never had a problem with dd. But, my 6 mo ds keeps leaking - at least once per day. Usually, if it pick him up and carry him on my hip, but other times as well. And, sometimes I've just changed the diaper.

Is this a diaper design issue? (seventh gen recently changed their design) OR is it a boy thing? I try to position it down and straight
- but still having problems.

Thinking bout trying a new brand...hmmm...

We used disposies at night for the first two months and ds leaked in every brand except Pampers Swaddlers. Now we are exclusively cloth (bumGenius) and he never leaks during the day, only leaks at night if he sleeps on his side.

I think its the brand. Had that prob with mine the first week or so. Just had to make sure he was straight and down and that solved the prob. Never heard of the brand your using so I am not sure. I use pampers right now but thats cause I can get them cheap on base. I only buy the off brands on base too so I can't suggest any other types to try.

wanted to tell you that info as I was dumbfounded as to what was happening...of course i had never really diapered a babe before either!!

Well, I am trying the next size up. No luck.

I would love to cloth, but I am working full time and am so overwhelmed, I can't imagine adding cloth diapers to the mix. That was the one thing I decided to comprimise on.

Maybe I'll try the pampers. Seventh generation are chlorine free, that's why I like them. But, I might have to just switch.

Thanks mammas!

i had the same problem with disposables! but, like you say, sometimes i need to use them (like i am behind on my cloth diaper laundry, etc.).

last night was one of those situations, and i put on the disposable dipe with a wool cloth diaper cover on top. that way if it leaked it wouldn't get ian wet too.

it seemed to work!

I'm cloth diapering, but we still have to use disposables every now and then (if the cloth ones are dirty or not dried completely), and I found that the Pampers Swaddlers work great. They fit my son just right and I've never had a leak once.
Good luck!

I really like seventh generation while transitioning from disposables to cloth with ds. But, they aren't the best fit. I actually have less leaks with cloth even with a bikini twisted prefold. Cloth just absorbs waaaaaaaaaay better. Have you checked out the cloth diapering forum? I mean, granted, you may still have a leak or two with explosive BF poops, but not nearly as much as you ever will with cloth. DD(disposables til 19 months, then cloth after that) used to get the worst leaks. We're talking, if I didn't bring a change of clothes we would have to stop at a target to get more clothes or cancel our outings.lol

Hope you get a solution

Before we started using cloth, we tried all of the "natural" diapers for our first son, and we liked Nature Boy/Girl diapers by far the best. They are of course more expensive, and can usually be ordered online only, but they almost never leaked. The Seventh Generation never seemed to fit right no matter what size we tried, and leaked most of the times we tried them.
What about a cloth diaper service?
FYI, when travelling and using disposables, we found CVS brand diapers to be the best for our boys.

I love Target brand diapers. We used a couple of others (expensive name brands) and they leaked.

Whenever the Target brand leaks we figured out it was time to move up a size even if ds wasn't even near the weight listed on the packaging.

I think diapers wear differently on different little bodies so if you've already moved up a size then try a few different brands until you find one that works.

We use pampers swaddlers. They're soft and stretchy and smell like baby powder. I think they only go up to size 2 though. I don't like pampers baby-dry cause they're not stretchy and loosen up on him every time he wiggles and for me they leak really bad. Huggies are stretchy and don't leak for me but i don't like them either cause they leave marks on him. My aunt got me this brand called Dandy and there really soft too but i havn't gotten to use them yet cause Malachi is still in size 1 and they're size 3. I think i'll get to use the swaddlers for a little while longer cause he's such a tiny baby. (11lb 5oz @ 19wks old)

I used disposables w/ my first son for the first 18 months...He ALWAYS leaked through them as a newborn and infant...w/ every brand!
I started using cloth, with much success.
With my second son, I started right off using cloth...NEVER leaked! I used fitteds and covers on him as a newborn.
I switched to pockets and then back to fitteds and wool covers for nighttime...With a well-lanolized full-fitting wool cover, leaking will most likely be a thing of the past...even for side sleepers!

PLUS...cloth is SOOO much CUTER!!!

It's easier to do cloth diaper laundry then to wash a million pairs of clothes because disposies keep leaking out... no..really...I cloth diapered my ds2 and ec'ed from birth and worked 40 hours a week from his 5 month until his 9 month before resigning, and it's not as overwhelming as it might seem at first. It's really not at all hard assuming the caregiver while you are at work (who happened to be my hubby) is cloth friendly (he had no choice LOL)

I agree that it's the 7th generation diaper fit. Before I switched over completely to cloth, ds would have at least one diaper leak (not even a blow out, just pee) that went all the way through his clothes. Plus twice he ended up with little gel bits on him. yuck.

Before my whole foods started exclusively carrying 7thgen they used to also have Tushies that worked ok (plus they don't have the gel).

I've also used the Target house brand, same as CVS brand when travelling--prettty good fit, no fragrance.

belcanto: I also use the seventh generation diapers for ds (almost 6 mos). We use the size 4 and they still leak, esp. over night! Major leakage overnight! During the day he'll leak if he goes over 2 hours w/out diaper change (which is rare). We're eventually going to switch to ec, but until then I feel better using this brand. They also sell Tushies and another brand at our natural market, I forget the other brand's name, so maybe I will try those. GL!

edited to add that DD2 also wears seventh generation size 5 and usually leaks at night, too.

If they leak poop up the back, it is time for the bigger size. Other than that, you have to try new brands to see which fits the best. Pampers Baby Dry and Luvs are the same design - not stretchy. I like these the best, personally. Pampers Swaddlers are stretchy. Huggies are stretchy, and I didn't like these, but you may. Just try them all and see.

I used to CD but don't have the time or interest now. I don't think washing diapers is better than washing poopie clothes b/c the poopie clothes just go in the normal wash but the diapers are their own annoying load. I did CD for 2 years but that is just my opinion.

For us it seems to go in stages, DS, now 10 mos, will just have weeks now and then where he leaks. Then it passes. We double-diaper at night, a huggies overnight underneath and a pampers on top, but he still leaks sometimes.
