I finally broached the subject of using cloth at daycare with the director. All the posts here about problems people were having made me wary. I love my daycare, but I also try not to overwhelm them with my uptight Anglo yuppie demands - I live in a tiny very rural New Mexican community.
Well, I said to the director, "I'd like to use cloth diapers with Ciara, how do you feel?", and she replied, "No problem, we want to support you in any way possible!" Now the director is a VERY cool woman but I had no idea that she was THAT cool! And she automatically said yes, assuming I wanted to use prefolds, pins and nylon covers, which is what she thought I meant!!! She wasn't even freaked out about dunking! She cd'd 2 of her kids about 15 years ago.
I was flabbergasted. I thought I would be bombarded with questions about disposal and sanitation, etc. And let me tell you, I'm positive I'm the only one who cd's within maybe a 100 mile radius!
So I'm off to buy another wet bag, and then no more sposies!

Sure wish I heard more of those stories! I think it helps us to remember to not assume that the answer will be 'No!' Maybe we should assume the opposite - that the answer will be 'Yes!' and go from there. I bet she will be interested to see that your diapering system differs greatly from what she remembers, eh?

Yeah!! I did the same thing, assumed the worst. Everytime I assume the worst about stuff, it never happens!! Maybe I should stop assuming the worst, huh!!!

CONGRATS!! We cd at daycare too

Yeah! It's great when thing work out like that, isn't it?

When I first asked, I was expecting to be told no, too. But it seems like some people who work with kids a lot really want to do what's best for each family they deal with

My daycare center was cool with it from day one as well. Being a university day care center though, which employs a lot of students who have never seen a cloth diaper before in their lives, I get some pretty funny diapering combinations. In fact, just last week dd came home with a CPF stuffed inside of a PUL cover - inside out! Good thing she hadn't peed much...

I take care of my neighbor - 4.5 months old and I soooo wish the mom would switch. She is considering it - here's hoping. I hate throwing away the dipes. I've actually considered just putting into my kids' dipes but he's FF and his poop is gross and I love my dipes - silly I know!!

Woo Hoo! It's such a relief, isn't it? I'm also a WOHM and we CD at day care, too. We use a home day care, but I was still nervous about asking since we had been there over 9 months before we decided to switch to CD. I was all prepared to show her how easy it was with my prettiest SOS and cover, but she had no problem with it! She's cared for several babies who used diaper services over the years (and she used cloth on her own kids 15+ years ago), so my fitteds are a breeze for her. She's a total saint!

Enjoy your liberation from sposies!

My kids go to day care one day a week. It's a home day care just four doors up from me and I was friends with the neighbor before I started sending my daughter. Well, this summer I started sending my son too and it didn't occur to me until I was packing the diaper bag the night before "What if she won't do cloth?!". I took him there fully prepared to be sent home with him and his cloth stuffed diaper bag. She was totally cool, she'd never changed cloth before but as long as she wasn't doing the laundry she was willing to try it. Now she's developing her own product preferences (she swears by a kissaluvs contour with a deluxe fleece stacinator, even though I've deliberately sent pocket dipes and aios for her convenience) and lamenting that she wishes she'd known about all this cool stuff when her four kids were in diapers. She still doesn't believe in wet bags though. I have a very pretty Mama's Little Pleasures wet bag that she's never put a diaper in. My beat up old duffy sack she'll use for wet clothes, but she doesn't seem to believe me when I tell her that it's for dirty diapers. I always get them back in tightly tied plastic grocery bags. No complaints from me, I just think it's funny.
