I have used Dr. Woods twice. First was with DS1, about 6 years ago, when he was with Huey and Weprin. They were not low intervention and referred most of their patients at the time who wanted low intervention to their midwife Molly, who left the practice a few days before DS1 was born. I also used him, with Dr. H for DD2 about 18 months ago.
At first I felt the same way about him, sort of he is there but not good or bad. But once you get to know him a bit better, you just realize it is his way. He is very laid back. The hospital could be burning down around him and I doubt he would panic or even notice if he is dealing with a patient. He has changed a lot in his views since he was with H&W. He will now do water birth and not discourage it and he will do breech, but does not prefer to do breech deliveries but he will do them.
What changed our minds to liking him from being he is just there, is that he was supposed to do an ECV on DS1, but ended up not needing to, because he turned heads down. We actually got to talk a bit while we were waiting on an US machine to confirm in the short 2 hours since my office visit, that he had turned positions. During that time we got to talk to him in a bit of a more free time vs having to move on to next visit. We also got to know him better because he was the one who actually delivered DS1 as well, and during labor had some chances to talk.
He is still not as "crunchy" Dr. H in some aspects, but I think Dr. H is slowly working his way to getting him comfortable with it.
