Hi all,

I may be moving to Dayton next month (if DH's job stuff goes thru). Can anyone pass on any recs for selective/delayed vax friendly pediatricians, and family physicians/internists in general? I'd prefer a female.

Also, can you all tell me about the birth culture here? I had my first in a freestanding BC, second in a hospital BC (but basically like freestanding), and I am loath to birth in a typical hospital setting. I went to fast in my first 2 and really want my waterbirth for #3. I'm not expecting, but plan to TTC next year.

A lot depends upon your insurance for the Ped and where you will physically be located and how far you are willing to drive. There are several highly recommend Peds in the area.

I love our family Doc, but two of the three are male in the practice, but the female is fairly good as well. From my experience they are not quick to prescribe medications unless needed and they listen to their patients.

As for birthing. For a waterbirth you only have two options: 1) Good Sam I believe has 4 rooms with tubs in them for labor and birth, but I believe only the CNM's at Lifestages will do a waterbirth. It is a typical hospital setting, but it is a small L&D unit, I believe with about 10 rooms total and the do LDRP rooms, unless they are full and then they transfer PP patients down the hall. 2) Family Beginnings - It is a hospital based 3 LDRP rooms natural birth center with 1 on 1 care. They are very restrictive on who is eligible, you have to be very low intervention with no possible complications for L&D. If you go through FB, there are generally two groups who practice out of there and will do water birth - Dr. Guy and the Midwifes and Dr. Horlocher/Woods.

I highly recommend the Dayton Attached Parents group on yahoo groups.

When you move make sure you check out the Dar a Luz Network meetings and LLL meetings. You will find mamas that have had there babies in all different settings home,hospital,birth center. Most would be happy to tell you all about it. Best of luck hope the move goes well. You can also PM me if you need more info.
