My DD is 18 months old, and she doesn't like it when DH and I talk. She's usually very mellow and loving, but if we try to have a conversation she'll scream until we can't hear over her. I thought this kind of thing wouldn't start until later--does anyone have ideas for handling this with a young toddler?

I just posted in GD that nobody gave me the memo that the "Terrible Two's" actually can start at 18 months! LOL! But that's the story I read yesterday....that "Terrible Two's" is a misnomer. As for not liking you guys to talk to each other? I'd ignore the screaming behavior pointedly for 3 days, and it should stop-- as she learns that her screaming will not control the situation. She has to learn to accept that mommy and daddy talk to each other, and that's that. I mean, what else would you want to do? Certainly not convey the idea that she has the right to tell you two when and if you should talk to each other! LOL!

Good luck. I'm sure others have ideas on this subject.

Our 21 month old does that too, but she she won't let us talk, hug, hold hands, lie in bed close to each other or anything! We try not to let it bother us but this morning was so funny. Dh was spooning me before She got up and when she realized she wasn't between us, she squeeze between us and once comfy she said "better"
Hopefully this is a phase.

I don't know when it starts but if DH and I are talking, especially if it is excited or involved in any way Marah Jade goes "mom" "mom" "Mommeee..." "mom hello I am talking to you.." non stop until one of us stops and goes "What Marah Jade!?!" and her usual response is "What are you doing?"
