DD (2) has a cold and I'm not sure what to do for her. This is the first real cold she has had. She has a terrible runny nose, sneezing and a cough (at night). I gave her some Tylenol cold, but I want to give something natural to help ease the symptons. Any suggestions?

Ds just got his second one ever today and I got him some Children's Alpha CF. It's made by Boericke & Tafel. He started the day with a pretty good runny nose. After 2 doses, it went down substantially and he got a ton more energy. By the time he went to bed his nose was barely running at all. We'll see what tomorrow brings. It's also worth noting that I always give my kids Vit C and Elderberry everyday along with their vitamins in the fall/winter. Hope she feels better soon! Herbs for Kids makes Eldertussin syrup and I have always had good luck with that too. Sometimes, if the cough is bad, I combine it with a homeopathic cough remedy.

my dd has had so many colds....don't know why she is still bf'ing and eats very well. She see's a naturalpath. When see gets a cold she usually takes hylands vit c tabs...they help the runny nose etc. If her cold is mostly nasal she will take echinacia (sp)/ eyebright for kids combo 4x a day. If it is in her throat...cherrybark. if it is in her chest horehound. All depends on the cold.

I second the Children's Alpha CF suggestion! We use it as well, and it really does seem to "chase the cold away", as my DS said a few weeks ago. <img alt="" class="inlineimg" src="http://www.mothering.com/discussions/images/smilies/smile.gif" style="border:0px solid;" title="smile"> I even doubled the dosage and gave it to my husband when he had the flu and I had nothing else in the house he would take (I had teas, but he hates tea) and it worked really, really well. So well that my husband, who is totally anti-"hippie" medicine (his words), was completely sold.
