She is fair and so always had slightly rosy cheeks. But the past few days her cheeks and chin are downright red, with tiny bumps in clusters. They don't appear to be itchy. They look chapped or like she has rug burn.

I haven't introduced anything new (that I know of) to her diet, no new cleansers/lotions, same old dye/frag free laundry detergent. She is teething her molars, but has been for several weeks.

:

I have been washing area gently with just warm water and a soft cloth a few times a day, and then applying NaturaBio Calendula lotion (but contains alcohol). Is this OK?

Is there a lotion or homeopathic remedy to try?

Help!!

As a matter of fact, she did. Mild - very low grade. Let's see, she had little temp (I didn't even take it, it was that low/mild - she just felt warm) last Sat/Sun, and red bumps/redness have been there since Mon. No signs of illness. I thought the slight temp was due to her molars coming in.

The redness/bumps are starting to go away slowly.

Edited to add that ds does not have this - I would guess that whatever dd comes down with, ds will get and v.v. - that's the way it's always been. I'll watch him closely for low fever and red cheeks!

What was that illness called, just so I can check other symptoms to see if that's it or if it's a skin condition / dry skin / etc. which is what I've been thinking it is and "treating" it for (with a little Calendula lotion).

Are you thinking about roseola? That was my first guess.

Hmmm... according to Dr. Sears website, dd definitely didn't/doesn't have roseola.

http://www.askdrsears.com/html/8/T083600.asp

Her fever was not high at all (diagnosis is 3-7 days of very high fever), and the red rash is not all over her body, just on her cheeks and chin (diagnosis is red rash starting on neck/chest/back and then spreading all over).

Even if she had atypical rosela (which is fever only, and no rash), her fever just wasn't nearly that high. She was just a little flushed and warm for a day or two. I didn't even bother to take her temperature because she didn't even seem sick.

Ack! I searched the site for "rash" and found Fifth Disease a.k.a. "Slapped Cheek Disease" !!
Wow this is sounding a lot closer...

http://www.askdrsears.com/html/8/T083500.asp

She definitely looked like someone slapped her cheeks. It's subsided a little now. But at the height of it, her cheeks were BRIGHT red.

But this is really the only symptom that sounds right -- she doesn't have a lacy rash on her body, no fever (though only present in 25% of cases anyway), and again just doesn't seem sick (no aches, pains, runny nose).

Does anyone know if most babies do get the rash over the rest of the body, i.e., could it still be Fifth Disease if all she had was a mild fever and that "slapped cheek" look?
