dd hates the mei tai

My dd is 17 months old and getting too heavy for the sling, so I bought a mei tai. It is really comfortable for me, but dd hates it and refuses to stay in it. Is there anything I can do to help her like it more, or should I invest in something else. Also, what else is out there? DD is 23 pounds.

Do you know why she hates it? My DS loves my Mei Tai Baby, but hates others that I've tried. I think he likes it because he's snug and the bottom is small enough for his little legs to be out. You could always try a wrap too.
What kind of MT is it? What positions are you using it in? My ds LOVES MTs but not *every* MT. He doens't like short bodied MTs and he likes the straps to be pretty high and not overly angled so that the snuggle him in.

Another thought is that sometimes a baby has to learn to love it and it just may take a few more tries. I have heard that a lot.

Also maybe she would prefer a different position? Arms in? Arms out? On back? On front, head rest up, head rest down..etc.

I bought it on ebay. It is this one http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...DME:L:RTQ:US:1 I HAVE TRYED PUTING HER IN IT A FEW MORE TIMES SINCE POSTING, AND EVERYTIME (nak sorry for the caps) I do, she freaks out. I think that it is kind of confining and she doesn't like that. The position doesn't really seem to matter, she crys no matter what.

If you think it is too confinig for her maybe try rolling up the bottom a little so the "blanket" doesn't cover as much of her back. That way more of her upper body will be "free". My son loves the high back but I just made one for someone with a lower back and it works just as well.
Jenna, honestly I don't like the type of MT that you purchased. The straps are way too high for the comfort of my ds and myself. It would keep him way too confined. Plus there is no head rest. I prefer an MT with the straps lower on the body and less angled so that ds is hugged but not restricted. It makes such a difference.

Here is a pic of one of mine:

See how the straps are much farther apart so that when worn there is more room for baby.

Check out www.thebabywearer.com and see what the prefered brands are. I bet your dd would love a different kind of MT!

ETA: I think GriffinsMom brings up a great point about where you are tying it. When I got my first MT I tied right in DS's back and he hated it until I started tying below his bum.
My ds found it scary at first and would cry when I wore it. Here is what we did:

At home, I'd put him on my front or hip, so he could see me. I'd talk to him and walk around a bit. Then I'd let him down. We did this a couple times a day for a couple weeks. He slowly warmed up to it.

Then, one day when he fell asleep in the car on the way to the farmers market, I got him out of the car and tied him facing me on my front. He continued to sleep and when he work up, rode happily for another 30 minutes. We haven't had a problem since - he'll even go on dh's back in it now.

One other thing we did (for a back carry) was to tie it *underneath* his legs. He didn't like the feeling of the straps on his legs and this really seemed to help.

Great suggestions!

I also found that it took my dd a while to get used to being worn in a MT, so if the carrier is comfortable for you, keep at it, it will grow on your dc, too!

I think the style you have looks somewhat confining. I'd try to roll it once and see if she'll fit w/ her arms out.
Hi Kym!!!! Thanks! I only have one Napsack, but I reaaaaally want more!!!! Can't wait until she starts taking orders again.
