DD absolutely loves nuts. She has no problems with allergies, but I'm trying to figure out if I should worry about her choking. I've let her eat pine nuts and almonds before. We broke the almonds up a little bit, but I let her eat the pine nuts whole. I'm generally pretty laid back about stuff, but I'm wondering if I need to be more careful about this. I watch her, of course, but I haven't had CPR training yet (
, so I'm worried that if she choked, I wouldn't be able to handle it.

When did you stop worrying about your dc choking on nuts. (Oh, dd is almost 23 months old, and has all of her teeth except the 2 year molars; and I do try to remind her to chew.)

I let DS eat nuts, all types, and without breaking them up, at about 1 year. Both of us love nuts. Even if DC eats them whole, they are still pretty small. DS eats olives, and more than not, he swallows the pits. So what? What goes in must come out.

I mean, if it was a giant walnut, or he shoved 50 in at one time, then I would try to stop it. But with regular nuts, I don't see the choking hazard.

Yeah, I'm nervous about nuts although DS eats raisins without me cutting them up. I still cut up grapes and grape tomatoes. If I want to give DS nuts, I run a rolling over it to break it up. Just seems safer.

That's about the same age DS was when he started eating peanuts (22-23 mos), though I watched him closely and reminded him frequently to chew carefully. He also now really likes cashew nuts which I'm a little more comfortable with. I don't think we've tried almonds yet, but I think he could handle them. I was concerned about choking too, but he seems to be doing ok with nuts.

I think it depends on your child. My daughter was so good at chewing things, I can't remember worrying about this.

Peanutbutter, on the other hand, freaked me out at first, and still does. It can get stuck because of how gooey it is, that has nothing to do with your child's ability to chew.
