dd2 swallowed either a penny or a dime a couple of hours ago.

i know the protocol is to watch her for signs of possible complications for the next several days as well as actually go through her poop (oh, this should be fun
: ) to make sure the coin passes through within a few days.

have any of you been through this before with your dc?

Hi, yeah, my son swallowed a penny. My recommendation: don't bother looking for it in the poop. It's disgusting, and unnecessary. We initially called the nurse and she told us we had to "find the penny" which meant going through his poop for a few days. We did this, and we never found the penny. But, no problems. We later talked to his pediatrician and he told us we didn't need to look through his poop, just to make sure he doesn't have abdominal pain and is having normal bowel movements. He joked that we only needed to worry if he started "making change", i.e. swallowed a quarter and pooped out a nickel
