DD does not ask questions yet and thus has no way of asking what a novel item is called when she does not know. So she usually makes up a string of words that she does know in order to describe it, often with interesting results. She has a toy binoculars on a string that she received for Christmas, and the string came off yesterday and she wanted me to fix it, so she brought it to me and said, "Mama fix glasses necklace let's take a look."

I just thought that was a cute way to describe binoculars. So now she is calling it her "glasses necklace let's take a look." I know I have to do my duty and tell her the correct word but I think it's adorable. Am I a dork?

I love it! It's much more creative and thoughtful than binoculars. Sure it takes a lot longer to say! But so sweet. I doubt I'd correct her either.

That is cute! I think I'd let her keep saying it for at least a while myself--it is too cute! Andrew makes up words too (though nothing that creative and adorable). If I do tell him the real word he'll often combine his and mine anyway.

That's adorable! I think I'd have to let her keep saying it for awhile. Maybe try to catch it on videotape if you have a video camera.
