Ok, I thought I would try and get a December thread going. Not much going on here. Bobby cancelled the Ratdog tour due to his exhaustion. I hope he feels better soon. Does Mickey ever play with his band anymore? I would love to see just him but everytime I check his website he only has personal experiences listed. I want to hear him drum!!!!

Peace,
Hey mamas, I too have been super busy and not online. I too am longing to hear some great music. Robert Randolph and the family band are playing here in Chicago for new years, but the headliners are Big head todd and the monster(?) and I am not paying $75 a ticket to go see them. I am going to Carl Denison in a few weeks That should be fun. We were going to see Bruce although we are boycotting the venue, as they get a little too personal as they frisk you . I felt like I was molested last time when they were searching me.
On a different note, I am feeling a little better, not throuwing up so much, hopefully this will subside soon. I am still so TIRED, I cannot bear it. Well, I have to go, my phone got shut off last night and I need to go pay the bill

Glad to hear the morning sickness is subsiding. I know that can be such hell. I had it with both of my kids for the first 4-5 months of the pregnancy. I think that is why I don't like pregnancy so much. I love the birthing part but really can't handle puking for 5 months straight. :LOL

I really want to hear some live music. I haven't heard any live music since this summer even though I live in a town that has an ample selection each night. I just never get out of the house much anymore. With school, work, and the kids my evenings consist of many, many chores and studying. Perhaps one of these nights, I will treat myself to some music. Flomotion is playing tonight. I wish I could go. : Oh well, Microbiology is almost over and I can rest my brain cells soon.

Hey mamas! I think the New Year's Phil & friends is still going on, right? I have to confess, in the past 8 years (since the dawn of children) the only show I made it to see was the free Dave Matthews Golden Gate Park show...so I am so out of the loop.

I have this great regular at Garcia's (my restaurant) who roadied for the Dead back in the day. He brings me lots of free posters, calendars, etc. and keeps threatening to take us to the rehearsals for the the New Years show...that would be pretty nice. I hope, hope, hope (a girl can hope ).

Anyway, can anyone fill me in: who's the girl who's singing w/ Bob Weir now? What's up with her? I saw pics in the calendar, and am just wondering about her.

Last night, "SpoonMan" performed at our restaurant...have you mamas heard of him? He's the guy from that Soundgarden song from the 90's you know "spoonman, come together with your hands, save me...etc". He was pretty cool, I took my ds7 & he loved watching him play spoons & blow bubbles. Definitely an experience.

mountain that would be so awsome to go and see the rehersals. I am sure the shows were sold out immediatley Which is what always happened for phil and friends when I lived in the bay. Its like they sell tickets to their friends first, and then there are only a few left. I wish you luck in your dreams. I used to go to a mexican restaurant in Oakland on Piedmont where there were Jerry pictures on the wall, the clock was set to 4:20 and there was live bluegrass music on certain days, thats not your restaurant is it?

As for the girl with Bobby, is it his wife? I have no idea who she is either, although I havent paid much attention.

Shelbi I have to agree with you, I hate being preggo...It kills my body. I think last time I got 5 or 6 new cavities by the birth. Well I hate the first 5 months, then i am just uncomfortable for the rest of the time. I am really glad that I dont have to be preggo in the heat of the summer this year. I am such a wimp. .

Well mama's I hope you are having a great weekend. Enjoy

As far as a book on the Dead, were you wanting something about the band or the scene? There are several good books on the dead. One of the best that I know of is the new one that just came out a little bit ago. I can't remember the name but if you go to www.deadnet.com you could probably find it there. I have read several books about Jerry. All of which painted a man that I really felt sorry for. It is hard to hear stories about a man who was a junkie for 20+ years of his life. I liked "Captain Trips" myself although several of my friends did not.

There is also a book about Deadheads called "Deadheads: Stories from Fellow Artists, Friends, and Followers of the Grateful Dead" by Linda Kelly. I like it but some of the stories are just not ones that I would have personally included in a book about touring. The other musicians and such were nice to hear from but I wouldn't have included that section in a book about Deadheads.

Sorry so rambly but I just got up.

Peace,
I suggest the following:

"Garcia: An American Life" by Blair Jackson

"A Long Strange Trip: The Inside History of the Grateful Dead" by Dennis McNally

They're both well written and come from knowledgeable sources.

Enjoy!

Whats Up?? Where has everyone been. We have been trying to get throughthe holidays. Lots of family stuff to do. It makes me want to move back out west, so the only thing I have to do is spend Christmas with the fam. Its just too much for me to spend that much time with my whole family. And now that we have dd we feel like we "have" to. Here is a sample of my last month... we have Thanksgiving with my mom on thanksgiving. Then Thanksgiving again with the whole(extended) family Saturday after. My family comes into the city to have brunch at a restaurant my aunt works at the 2nd sat. of Dec, which we are expected to go to...Santa is there for the kids. This weekend is family christmas, and next week the real deal, which we are staying home.I am so exhastued!! I just want to stay at my house, but my mom gets disapointed.

We should of just moved this fall...but something kept me here, oh yeahI remember. When we found out we were having baby #2 mom guilted me into staying around.

Alright I am done. Sorry I had to get it out somewhere.

I hope everyone else is having a great holiday season. It is supose to snow here this weekend. 6-10 inches. DD cant wait to try out her new sled.

Darkstar I can relate. I remember when we did live by family and had our first we were expected to show up to all the family functions and it seemed so hectic, chaotic, and stressful. I remember having those same feelings of why can't I just hang out with my immediate family?

Well, now all these years later I find myself living 2500 miles from any family and there is no holiday hustle and bustle and I really miss it. Funny isn't it?

Well, I hope you can find some bright spot in your holiday bustle and take some time to play with the kiddies and have fun.

Peace,
Do they not call it GreatWoods anymore? Say it ain't so. I'm from the Cape (well, 18 years ago!) and have seen lots of great shows there...what is it "staples center" or something totally lame now?

We may be moving back to MA come spring, probably western MA or Vermont. Have to check out those shows again!

Hey darkstar, I figured it out, it was Joan Osborne in the pictures I saw...I thought it was a permanent member of the band the way they were in the calendars...
