Dealing with the government.

We're planning (as of right now) a UC. I just got the paperwork from our state (ID) for getting a birth certificate. It's ridiculously complex and you are required to have SO many tests done on the baby. Eye drops, blood work, etc. As the mother I'm required to have a syphillis test done. What the??????

Is it this hard in every state? Why is it so difficult to just have a dang baby?

I could google for your state but I am certain that in MANY states you are able to oprt out for a variety of reasons. they cant actually make you. all you ahve to do is prove you were ever pregnant.
Not sure what state you are in, but in all the states we have been in, there was very little that was "required". Proof of pgcy, Proof of live baby, IDs, and any witnesses statements.

I have heard that California is MUCH more difficult as well as some other states.
Anybody know what it's like in Washington in regards to this? Or does anyone know of any websites that describe what the process is like in each state?

I have given birth in Florida, George, Texas, New Mexico, and Indiana. They have all been very easy to register births.

I have searched the net for any site that has a listing, but could not find one. I always get my info from calling the health department or records office. I don't think there is a web site that lists things like that, but there should be. Perhaps one of us UC moms will create one!

I asked this in a thread in the last few months. You should be able to search for threads started by me and find it easily.

Never mind, I found it for you! http://www.mothering.com/discussions...d.php?t=463834
