I am posting a question for a friend who is BFing her toddler (and having internet connection issues).<br><br>
Here's the question:<br>
"I'm wondering about the safety of taking DGL (deglycyrrhizinated licorice) while breastfeeding. I've seen warnings not to take regular licorice while BF, but wonder if the answer is different with DGL.<br><br>
Anyone know sources of info?<br><br>
I'm having a reflux flare and possibly an ulcer and wanted to know both the herbal and conventional therapies before I decide on a course of action."<br><br>
TIA,<br>

you might find something for her at Dr. Hale's website <a href="http://neonatal.ama.ttuhsc.edu/lact/" target="_blank">http://neonatal.ama.ttuhsc.edu/lact/</a><br>
or call a lactation consultant that has a copy of his book and knows a bit about natural remedies.<br><br>
Zantac is perfectly safe to take, and quite effective if taken twice a day, every day. It's what I was prescribed for my ulcers long before it became available otc, and is often given to infants with reflux.

Thanks. I know she has tried the Zantac & not had too much luck with it and wanted to try some alternative approaches.

Has she been checked for H.pylori bacteria? Those have been found to be causal to some ulcers or at least the continuation of them, thus getting rid of the bacteria can heal the ulcer.
