It depends on how active your toddler is when asleep. My baby is still pretty small, and doesn't squirm around much in her sleep, so I just use a small pad underneath her. It's easier to chuck into the washer too!

hmmm....well my dd is active most of the nite, cuz she always wants to nurse. maybe i could just get a twin scz pad....
We use a waterproof mattress pad that covers the entire mattress and is washable.
