I'm having 5 extractions tomorrow under GA at 7:30am. Expected time under GA is about 1 hr. I should be out of there by 10am and home by 11am (1hr drive). I have 2 questions for the experienced.

Do you think I will be coherent enough to attend dd's visual rehab appt at 11am? They come to the house and we've already had to cancel for the last 3 weeks due to medical issues and I'm worried about them canceling services since we've had to cancel 3 out of 5 appts.

Any idea when I will be awake enough to resume taking care of the kids? My mother is pretty PO'd that she has to take me to the appt and watch the kids (there was NO ONE else and I can't wait any longer due to infection) and I'm seriously worried were going to get back home and she's going to drop us off and leave expecting me to be able to care for the kids 100% on my own like she did last time. (I did have someone here but they were not capable of watching the kids, (I was still out on demoral and versed and he handed me dd who I think was 4 mo at the time and left the room for a couple hours!) he was here to give me a ride not babysit!) Anyway my mom is one of those who has it easy with GA and wakes up immediately and expects everyone else to as well because she does and she does not believe I may not be able to watch the kids the second I come out of the Dr's office. I need some idea of when I might at the earliest be able to care for the kids. dd6 I'm not so worried about, its dd 10 mo I'm worried about!

I have no idea; I've never been under GA (knock wood ) but I didn't want to read and not post.

I know you said there is no one else, but I'd keep trying. A neighbor? A LLL friend? A homeschooled middle or high school age girl? You'll be there; you just need someone to watch after the kids til you are able to again. Do you have a dh or sister or friend who could take an early lunch and be home with you for a little while?

I hope it all works out for you.

If Geoff wasnt working tomorow, Id come sit with ya at home.

As many times as I have been under GA.....I wouldnt recomend being at home with them by yourself for the first day. Would your mom be willing to take S for the day and leave L with you since she is breastfed? It might be easier to take care of L if you didnt have S to worry about. Id say drop S off here for the day and you could get her Friday but with MRSA in the house, that is the last thing you need.

You'll have the best results if you eat a whole pineapple during the evening before surgery. You are allowed to eat up to midnight, I would eat until I went to bed.

You will not believe how quickly you'll recover. If you don't have a fresh pineapple, use canned. But eat, eat, eat pineapples tonight... LOL

Good luck. I hope you recover quickly.

I find the effects of the GA wear off very quickly (you will probably be fine with respect to that by the time you get home), but the effects of the painkillers are what really put me down for the count.

Good luck. I am sorry your mother cannot be more supportive.

You sound like you have a real sweetheart of a mother in law. Geez! 5 extractions is a lot.

I don't know your ages of kids but if I were you I would get some great movies, and things to keep the kids busy so when the meds start wearing off and you feel crappy, you can blob out and not have to entertain little ones.

I would buy pizza or pre-make snacks and get juice boxes and freeze them, (kids love them and it takes about 1/2 hour to scoop out with a spoon) if it's sunny I would spill a pile of flour in the back yard and let the kids make a mess and have fun with it. (Easy to clean and will give you more recovery time) stop by the thrift and buy a bunch of new toys, books and crafty things to keep them busy.

The happier they are the more you can blob and heal.

Good luck tomorrow mama and most important, take care or your can get dry sockets where the teeth were pulled and that will suck. Do your rinsing and everything else they tell you to do!!!!!! Offer to do a trade with friends. Them now, you later when your healed. It's a shock to the body to get something like this done so don't expect to heal fast. Take it slow and rest when you can.

I really do not get my mother, I really don't. We got back home around 12:30 and she dropped us off while she ran to the pharmacy to get my meds (abx for the infection and pain meds) I figured no problem, the baby was happy to nurse for half an hour and dd 6 played on the computer. She came back, drops off the meds and says " I'll be back at 3pm!" She had to go make her DH's lunch (umm, think you can feed dd before you go?? nope ). He's a grown man, he can make is own friggin lunch for a day. I NEEDED her here. The anesthesia where wearing off so for the most part I can think straight but I'm still feeling wiped out, weak and in need of a nap. So while doped up and barely standing I managed to make sandwiches for dd6 and I and get some caffeine into me to help me wake up more. I'm ready to wring dd6's neck because she keeps opening the front door wanting to go out and I do not have the energy to watch her out there much less keep yelling to shut the #!# door I seriously need a nap At least the baby is happily playing with toys on the floor so haven't had to carry her around, she feels like a bag of bricks to me right now so I'm glad she's keeping herself entertained.

Oh sweet mama. You'll get through this. I'm sorry you have cruddy help. Next time you will have to plan way ahead and do some child watching exchanges with friends. Hope your healing up well and taking good care of your mouth. Sleep any chance you can and this will pass. Sending you good healing vibes.

I did do advance planning and it fell though at the last minute since her kids are sick with a MRSA staff infection so we can't go near them. My mom came back at 2:30 and left again at 4 but by then I was more awake and able to deal with the kids but it wasn't until this morning I was back to thinking straight.
