I'm desperate - I just bought a car and can't drive it because I can't get an acceptable install of my eight-month-old's convertible. Anyone out there an Ministry of Transportation-trained installer?
The next Seats for Kids clinic isn't until May and the Ottawa Fire Department no longer checks seats.
Can anyone help?
I'd be happy to pay for the service or make a donation to the charity of your choice.

I will try both these suggestions - Thanks!
I'm trying to put an Evenflo Triumph RF in a Honda Civic. The Civic has a weird bump in the middle of the rear seat and I can't get it tight AT ALL. There's just no way I'm going to put my son in it for even a single trip.

Some vehicle seating positions ARE truly incompatible with some seats (the center of Subarus comes to mind, and I'm guessing yours might be similar). I agree to install it outboard.

I didn't know that – thanks, mamas! I didn't think it was OK to put an infant in the outboard position but you ladies are the experts. And now that I think of it, folks have to get multiples around somehow, right?

Yes, the middle is considered safer (mostly because there is more space between the seat and side of car in a side impact collision), but the side is not unsafe at all. And it's really not that much more unsafe than the middle. Really, the most important thing is a good install.

And yup, when you have more than one unless you have 2 rows, you HAVE to put a child outboard. Or in my case both of them because they just fight if they're next to each other!

The safest position is the one that you can correctly install a seat into! It does no good to use the center and not have a correct install. The difference is not huge, and you are right that once you have more than one child, they can't all go in the middle. It's fine to correctly install outboard.

Are you using LATCH or seat belt? We can probably offer some tips if we know the year of the vehicle and how you are installing. Good luck Mama!

Thanks, mamas!
I found a tech - PM me if anyone wants details - and the seat is in. I'm excited - it's been so long since I had a car!
