I was wondering if it is possible to do a detox when you are nursing? I only recently started eating right, using non-toxic cleaners, and became aware of the types of furniture, paint, etc. in my home. So I am assuming that I probably have alot of "junk" in my system that would be good to get out--especially since I am creating food for another human being.

But how would one go about doing that without messing up your milk? All the detox teas I have seen (such as the one from Yogi Teas) say not to use if you are nursing.

My plan with that is just to switch to all organics and non processed foods, air out the house, and drink lots of water. Basically just do it gently, replacing everything bad with the good. Then between weaning and getting pregnant again I hope to do the more agressive detox thing.

I've been wanting to do a detox too. I know you can take milk thistle (good for detoxing the liver) but it also increases milk supply. I tried it, but with a toddler now, I was NOT enjoying the increased supply (though she was). This sounds funny, but check out the T-tapp website--I heard about it here on the Mothering forum. I've been trying a few exercises from the site and it's really working for me. It works many areas of the body and, in the process, really helps get the lymph system moving and to control blood glucose levels. It might be worth checking out.

Aside from my suggestions and the pp's, I don't think there's much you can safely do while continuing to nurse.

Good luck.
