Read a great article paraphrasing the research done over the last 30 or so years about kids of divorce. Basically, it said that there are 4 factors that directly relate to how the kids turn out:

2. psychological and mental health and parenting skills of custodial parent
3. level of conflict btw. parents, before and after divorce
4. change in economic situation
