I got a therablue mini shower thingy from FMBG. DH doesn't want me to install it. He is nervous about the hardwood floors in the bathroom and thinks it will make the plumbing fail. He doesn't want me to monkey with the plumbing. He likes the hard metal fitted plumbing we have and doesn't want me to change to the flexible plastic tubing.

How can I convince him to change his mind?

My minishower sat in a box for almost 3 months before DH agreed to install it. I threatened to call a plumber to do it not knowing how easy it was to do. He put it in on Sat in under 10 minutes and thought it was the coolest thing and apologized that he didn't do it sooner. DS pooped on Sun and we had a fun time cleaning the dipe!!! :LOL It would have been totally useful to clean out DD's little potty when she started to train.
I say go for it!!!

Just go ahead and do it. I installed my minishower when DH wasn't home, and then what was he going to say? In my case, the plumber was here when I installed it (he was installing a new toilet) and he thought I was crazy, that it would leak and ruin my floors. No leaks, and I make up excuses to use it - diapers, DD's potty, washing out the tub, rinsing off my knees after gardening, naughty DHs... you name it.

"Honey, I understand your resistance to installing it but I really don't think that your fears will come true. I really really want to install this because it will improve my daily life in unmeasurable and countless ways. It is the little things that count, you know. It will make me happy. Very happy. I would really appreciate it if you would stand behind me on this. At the very first hint of any moisture on the wood floor I will rip it out. But given the experience of 100's of other people, no one has said this actually happened to them. So all I am asking is that we try it."

I usually add something like "and you will be REWARDED for your cooperation."

If you get my drift.

I don't blame him one bit. I had a minishower and it burst open and flooded my home! If you do install it you need to be VERY careful to remember to ALWAYS switch the shut off valve to the water supply running through it when you are finished, I forgot once and the thing burst! I will never buy another one. That $20 sprayer has cost me $300 to replace carpet pad

Wow - I'm so sorry this happened to you - what a horrible experience.

I think I need to be more careful - we've had our mini-shower for about a year now, and usually NEVER shut off the valve. So far no problem at all, except for an occasional drop of water or two getting on the floor (no issue since it's all tile). But I do think big disasters are the exception rather than the rule.
Still - I'm going to remind DH that we need to be careful to shut it off each time!

It was horrible....it just happened this weekend actually! I am now sitting in a HUGELY messy apartment trying to get ready to move, with three kiddos and 3 large fans going to dry the carpet. Also to make matters worse I found out that they are not even allowed in apartments! I felt like such a horses behind, LOL! It is total chaos here! All be cause I wanted some convenience, LOL! Never again.....I think the shower one sounds like a MUCH better idea.....

Hmmm... I wonder if I can use my mod superpowers to edit out the "bad things happened to me" posts before showing this thread to DH. :LOL (Just kidding).

So, anyone else have a minishower disaster? What brand were you using?

Take him to a plumbing store, and have them explain that the flexible supply is much, much less prone to rupture than the hard metal pipe, which is why new homes are installed with the flex lines now.

He's got a valid point about it opening up another possibility of leaking though. Ours is definitely not leaking one little bit, but when we leave for a weekend or overnight, DH turns off the water to that toilet anyway. Tell him you'll put a towel under there to monitor, and turn it totally off when you are away.

My dh doesn't' think we need a mini-shower. So he's in charge of poopy diapers. He rinses them in the utility sink in the basement. He said that works for him. Good luck, lol.
