What a great idea!!!! I love how accessible the books are. Something like that would definitely encourage a LO to pick up a book and read.

How did you do it exactly?

Went to lowes, spent about 20 bucks on a 10 foot raingutter, a few brackets and end caps.

DH cut the raingutter into 2 four foot sections (we still have 2 feet left, we may hang somewhere else to put puzzles in).

Drilled screws into the wall through the brackets and slid the rain gutters on

It was really simple. Took him all of 20 minutes!

What a nice reading area!

I've really been wanting to put up rain gutters for bookselves. What I'm wondering is how well they would hold up. Would they be like the towel rack in my kids' bathroom that fell off the first time a week after we moved in?

I would of course remind them that the shelves are for books, not for hanging on but I worry about it tearing up the walls if they get pulled out, yk?

I want to have a few around the house, lining a wall or two in the family room and shorter ones in each of the kids' bedrooms.

They look awesome!!! But I have to wonder with the PP, how sturdy are they? And my DD has so many books that I think I'd have to do 5 or 6 shelves!

Here are my recommendations - from someone who had them come out of the wall

Don't scrimp on the brackets - get extra brackets, and it'll be sturdy. Use drywall anchors if you aren't screwing into studs (and if you get extra brackets, you won't be all the time). I also recommend gluing the endcaps on.

We're putting them up again, only shorter sections (4 2-ft sections).

Ours fell b/c we put too many books in them
they were also a bunch of board books which are heavy. Just get more brackets and anchor them in, and they should be fine

Wonderful idea! A clever book display/selector for WAY cheaper than you can buy the specialized shelves or cases. Thanks for sharing!
