Well Kinda...He had the CP vax when he was younger. He knows we're not vaxing our kids but he's worried about how sick he'll get when he gets it. How sick do adults get? He's 27 right now. I doubt DS will get them for some time because I wont be trying to expose him until this baby is born and older. what can I do to help DH. Should he get a booster? Thanks Mamas!

Did he have the disease or the vax? I think the vax first came out in 1995. I know other mommas will be of better help, I've seen people get the disease after one vax and 2 vax. Also, being directly exposed to CP with the vax and not getting the disease itself.

So he had the cp vax. Evidently he doesn't blieve it will protect him? It might and it might not. But cp is not such a severe infection even in grown ups. I've read about a man who had it at age 48 and was fine.<br><br>
It's the shingles that are a worry. Maybe that's his concern?<br><br>
He should take plenty of vita C and cod liver oil when you expose your kids to cp. But don't forget, he could be exposed at any time. So a healthy diet is always best protection. No smoking, no sodas, no fast foods...

Yeah he doesnt have any faith in vaxes which is why we're not doing it to our son. His mother made him do it. He's never had them. A friend of ours was 30 and got them from his son and ended up having to be hospitalized. See how troublesome vaccines are?? <img alt="" class="inlineimg" src="http://www.mothering.com/discussions/images/smilies/lol.gif" style="border:0px solid;" title="lol">

same concern here with my dh. He never got the vax but never had cp either. His parents tried to expose him when he was younger, but no luck. I am sort of worried since i've heard stories about grown man getting cp being very sick, blah blah. I just need to do some more research....Maybe he's already immune? Can you get immunity and not actually go through the scabs and all the rest?

Yes, it is possible to be immune to CP without actually having visible signs of the illness.

Why does he think he is going to get CP? <img alt="" class="inlineimg" src="http://www.mothering.com/discussions/images/smilies/headscratch.gif" style="border:0px solid;" title="headscratch">

More than likely too much interference from a doc. Just thinking out loud...<img alt="" class="inlineimg" src="http://www.mothering.com/discussions/images/smilies/wink1.gif" style="border:0px solid;" title="wink1"><br><br><div style="margin:20px;margin-top:5px;">

My son in law was tested to get into med school and although he had never had the cp vax and was never exposed as far as he knew, he had immunity. So, yes, it is very possible to have built immunity without having had any symptoms.

Yes. I have never had CP although I have been exposed countless times.

Maybe he should have his titers checked. If he shows immunity that may relieve him.

But he doesnt get sick very often. Seriously maybe three times in the 6 years we've been married.
