Fellow CDers,

I love using CDs with my DS (10 months old), but the poop situation has become increasingly big, sticky, messy & I know you all KWIM

Today, DH announced that he's worried about sanitation issues with our CDs. Usually, we dump what we can in the can & then rinse out the rest in the sink before putting the CD in the pail. DH says we can't keep doing this--says the poop in the sink will become unsanitary. "The sink is not a toilet."

When I suggested we just throw the CD "as is" in the washer (we wash dipes separately, on hot), he said this, too, was not sanitary.

Can anyone help me with a strong case? I do not want to give up CDs!

Thanks!

We our mini shower and also use large, wide fleece cuts to cover the entire inside or our fitted and flats. Very rarely does poop get on the actual diaper. I can usually just dipe the fleece in the toilet and flush. It all just swirls away

If it were me, I would just never "let" DH change dipes (not that he would protest... or even notice... LOL).

Or, the rice paper liners sound like a great option too!

Or the min-shower.

Basically I have nothing to contribute to this thread. And yet I can't stop myself from replying...

Goodness, that's no reason to give up CDing! Get a minishower to spray most of the sticky mess off into the toilet, and go on about your business.

I know some people use flushable rice paper liners when they're expecting a poop, so they can just pull the liner out of the diaper and dump it -- whatever floats your boat.

Or, just get some bleach spray and keep it handy. Keep doing things the way you are, if that works for you; rinse any visible poo off the sink when you're done, and spritz it with bleach cleaner. Let it dry — voila, sanitary sink.

Why not knock off whatever you can in the toilet then put it in the pail.

I didn't ever feel the need to prewash the diapers.

Ask him where he thinks the sposies magically disappear to when you throw them in the trash. That's right! What's his prize, Johnny? Well, for our well-meaning but clueless DH, we have hundreds, possibly thousands of years of poop-filled landfills and contaminated groundwater due to parents of the nation throwing their crappy sposies in the garbage. We actually have no idea, they haven't been around long enough to know what happens to them after we throw them away since they take like 9 trillion years to decompose and no one bothered to srudy this before they just put them out on the market!

Even without a minishower, I don't see why you're rinsing them in the sink. When we have poops, I dump what I can in the toilet, then dunk and swish and wring all with my bare hands right there in the potty! Poop don't bother me none, I just keep soap by the sink and wash real good.

Your sink ain't as clean as it looks, either...

I don't think I could manage without my minishower! It's one of the first things I purchased.

When we switched to CDs, I was shocked when DH didn't throw a fit . At first I used kushies flushable inserts and DH was fine with it changing DS. Then I switched to fleece liners and now DH leaves the poopy dipes on top of the pail b/c he just can't deal with it. I really don't mind rinsing out the poopy ones so we just have an understanding that I'll take care of it.
I don't remember seeing a link for the mini shower so here ya go.

http://www.thestorkwearhouse.com/minishower.htm

Good luck!

:LOL I had forgotten all about this! Thanks for a good laugh!

Fleece liners may also help. I haven't gotten to the minishower stage yet, still mostly bf poop with a few carrot ****** here and there.

Even without a minishower, I don't see why you're rinsing them in the sink. When we have poops, I dump what I can in the toilet, then dunk and swish and wring all with my bare hands right there in the potty! Poop don't bother me none, I just keep soap by the sink and wash real good.

Why when I read this the first time, did my mind say, "pull penises from the couch?"

I was like, "WHAT?!" then of course, I reread and understood. :

There isn't much in poop that you don't sometimes have on your hands when you wash them.

I rinse mine out in the sink after I swish the poop off, wash my hands really well, then spray the sink with 50% vinegar. Instantly sanitized!

My dh just read this and said OMG, they just need a diaper shower!!!
For what it's worth, dh is the poop rinser--mainly because I don't put baby down after changing her bum, so he comes in after me and hoses out the dipe--and we FF, so we've been using the diaper shower since day one (actually we didn't get it until 2 weeks in and in that 2 weeks we had major stains, all of which went away as soon as we started hosing them off first)
My mom babysat here and was in love with our diaper shower, both my brother and I were cloth diapered and she figured that should have been a mandatory purchase!

Oh, and that would be quite some couch!!!!
