Tell him these are tools for your trade!

Just like he needs different tools in the workshop, you also need different tools that help you care for his little one. Different carriers are good for different situations! Besides, carriers must be washed, so it is always good to have at least two of each while you are waiting for them to dry

Also, nobody tells you that you only need 1 pair or shoes, 1 shirt or 1 pair of pants!!

And no, you definetely don't have too many!! I know of a handful of people that have a couple of dozen carriers... : I personally think great carrier stashes are super cool!! I wish mine was that full and varied

I'm actually mildly confused too, though certainly not coming down on it. I have an ergo, a premaxx adjustable sling and a hotsling, and I just sold my new native to help fund a mei tai. I feel like that's a lot! I got by with a bjorn and a nojo with ds1, and that's it. I do wish I had known about the ergo and a better sling that would have enabled slinging longer and could have given me variety and just a better fit at different size. But for a long while I did OK with just those, using each everyday. I'm suprised so many people can afford so many. (and I'm jealous.) It's like CDs, I'd just keeping buying them if I could. But I do feel like I have enough with what I have. I'm surprised when people talk about having multiple hotslings and mei tais. How do you use them all?!

Well if I made my own, the he wouldn't care. I justify it by not having more than one of the same kind and if I want to get another, I have to get rid of the first one. I do tell him that they have great resale value. so it's not like it's money wasted. I'm sending off for a custom Kozy as soon as my fabric comes in and I'm so excited. That means when it gets here I'm gifting my current MT to my SIL, and I just sold my KKACP to fund my hotsling, haha.

FWIW dh doesn't seem to understand why I have 20 pairs of shoes

Different carriers for different needs. Plus you have to be able to wash and still wear your DC. There's my usual arguement. Not with Dh though. He understands my addictions.

Multiple slings make as much sence as multiple shirts or shoes or pants or underwear even. Considering how much use you'll get out of them they are way too valuable to put a limit on the amount. The big addicts rarely stop at even one of each brand... have you seen some of the stashes in the attachedtobaby.com galleries? I always justified to Dh by showing him how big my stash "could" be. He became quite pleased that my stash "only" took up one closet, lmao. I dont think he ever truely realised how many carriers I've owned though as I've been constantly trading them from day one. I know its been well more than 40 but not sure exactly how many... We are down to 4 now but rarely babywearing anymore since our "baby" is 3 years.

My DH understands why I have the different types, but I don't think he understands why I have 2 of each type. 2 Freehand MTs, 2 Hotslings, 2 Wise Woman Slings... Too many fabrics to choose from, I tell ya!

My new Freehand onbuhimo just came in the mail this week. I love it and can't wait to pick out one in a 2nd pattern.

Well I'm fast going in that direction now that I'm hip to the variety and some of the great carriers! If I knew I were having a third child I'd be relentless. And I would love a hotsling in other colors.
I totally get the shoe thing, so I'm not all simple all the way around. In fact I just bid on another pair of shoes on ebay (new, $15 and retails at $ 79!) when I have like 20 pairs, so I shouldn't talk. I would like 20 slings. I do wish I knew about the variety of slings with DS1. That's a major regret, that I only used the Nojo the whole time! I don't think I had visited this forum at the time. :

Wow, there really are some role-reversals going on at my place.

Not that I want multiple slings -- we've had one for dw, one for me and that's it (and now mine was bleachified, so only one ) -- but if I told her I wanted a collection, she's look at me like I was nuts. And I know what that looks like, trust me!

So while I'm not down on you for wanting it, I can maybe understand how he might feel. To someone who doesn't need more than one, it sounds a little like some kind of wrap-fetish.

If you want to communicate what you see in it, find something of his that's analogous; something that he deems necessary that most people don't see as useful or easily do without (excessive gadgetry is a common male one, or every book by a particular author, every season of a series on DVD, whatever). If he has none of these, get him drunk and have him sign away his rights to complain.

oh, this isnt hard. he probably has the biggest Sherlock Holmes collection in the US...several books he has 6 -10 of! same edition!
other books, he has many many copies of the same thing...and he doesn't stop. it really is an addiction and there is no AA for it! i started a database of all his books (havent finished) and SH alone was a few thousands. I cataloged the ones that are just IN OUR HOUSE ON THE BOOKSHELVES and thats over 5,000. there are many, many, many boxes that haven't been gone through b/c we don't have any room for them!!!!! and i try to sell all my books that i don't collect (i do have a small fetish for Orson Scott Card and some other niches), b/c well..we don't need any other books.

and when i ask him if i can sell some of the books (of course, to raise pp to buy more wraps!), he goes into convulsions!!!

Okay the argument for Many slings is limitless. First of all you need to try differnt kinds to determine which one(s) work best for you. Secondly, ITA with the argument that you can't just have one pair of shoes, pants, underwear, etc. And lastly, it's just fun! Carriers are addictive, having and addiction to them is like having a shoe or purse, or whatever else compulsion. They are so beautiful, and there are so many fabrics how could you ever have just one?(or two, or 10, or.......)

I don't even attempt to make my DH understand... He's a man and he'll never "get it". I mean, heck, I have no clue why he needs 100 different tools.
