what could cause this? he's been complaining about it for a week, and it's really bugging him. is this a circulation thing? it's mainly his hand.
he wonders if it could be because he holds his pencil in an odd way?
he works at a computer for part of the day. uses mouse with right hand. writes with right hand too. there isn't any pain. anyone know of what it could be?

Could be circulation, but more likely is muscular /joint and nerve irritation. Could be posture related. Have him see a chiropractor

From the usage you descibe, it could be Carpal Tunnel. If he can, he should do a few things: use the other hand when he can, take short stretch breaks and stretch that hand and arm.

I've read that repetetive motion injuries are becoming more common. Hopefully he can nip this before it hits the point of pain.

Google 'carpal tunnel syndrome', if you don't already know what it is. My husband used to be in carpentry, and had to have surgery(minor) to repair it.
Anyone who uses their hands ALOT in their line of work can be susceptible to this condition - you often see grocery store cashiers and people who use computers alot with braces or splints on their hand/wrists.
Hope you get it figured out!
