Hi,

I'm wondering if anyone has used Diane Schaub as their midwife? If so, could you tell me your experience?

Thanks,

Are you interested in using her as a midwife, or are you asking for other reasons?

I used her with my second birth over 8 years ago. It was a fairly easy birth and things went well. Although my baby did get a bit wedged at the shoulders, so she had to do some maneuvering at that point, and I ripped, and her stitching was skillful. I also, apparently, bled a lot after the fact, so I ended up getting a shot of methergine, I think. I personally didn't feel bad, but I guess you don't always recognize it yourself? I don't know. In any event, my labor was a fairly fast one, I only pushed for 20 minutes, I had an 11 lb baby, so that's part of why I ended up ripping.

She has a lot of experience, she's done many different kinds of births. I really like her as a person, and I'd use her again as a midwife (although I'm done having children). The biggest issue, I think, is that she is pretty busy.

Hi Viola,

Thank you so much for the feedback. I would like to use her for my first child, due in September. My choice to go with her has really been challenged over the last few days by my primary and by the place I went for my first trimester screening. I have also had a hard time finding other women who have used a midwife for the birth of their first child. Any ideas on places to connect with other women who have used a midwife, would be awesome.

Thanks,

Probably a La Leche League meeting, honestly. We have a number of meetings now. Here are some links: http://lllnorcal.org/Groups/NorthernNevada.html#reno and https://www.facebook.com/pages/LLL-of-Sierra-NevadaReno/134000403283526 There is also the Truckee Meadows Birth Network and other sorts of support groups. If you are on facebook, you can probably find area groups for breastfeeding or birthing where people will share their experiences.

There have been some articles in the Reno News & Review about area midwives, so I figured I'd post the links here. From 2006: http://www.newsreview.com/reno/midwife-crises/content?oid=214024

and from 2002: http://www.newsreview.com/reno/born-at-home/content?oid=18014
