Hello. I hope you don't mind me asking a question, since this is my first time posting on the diaper boards. Well, I've been using unbleached prefolds with prorap covers during the day because that's what we can afford. They do the job, but the covers are driving me crazy! There seems to be too much fabric between the legs, and as soon as dd starts walking, the diaper sags/bunches up in the bottom. Are there any covers that are around the same price range that offer a better fit?

Thank you so much
Welcome to the diaper boards!
I've always been a fan of Bummis SWW - I don't know how they compare to proraps, because I've never tried those, but Bummis always seem to fit my kids great when I was using them! http://www.greenmountaindiapers.com/covers.htm#Bummisw

I know I'll probably get booed off the board for saying this, but I bought a bunch of nylon pull on covers at Babies R Us (their brand - I think it's something like "Especially for Baby") and I really like them. They're super easy to use, and I can just throw them in the wash with the rest of my diapes. And they're super cheap - I think they were $3.99 for a package of two.

welcome veganmomma! FYI we have a "veganmamma" here and you MIGHT get confused with her around here!!! xoxo

I find all front closing covers do that, especially aplix ones. I really prefer the way side closing covers fit, but there's less choice amongst the - what's the word - mass manufactured? stuff. But I've got Lucy's Hope Chest open on another window and her covers are only $13 or so.

And I find if a side closing cover is snug and well fitting, you can easily still trifold a prefold into it.

I don't think the prorap itself is necessarily the problem. I noticed that once my boys started running around, I could no longer just lay a prefold in a wrap (of any kind) and have it stay put. It would sag, bunch, etc. Have you tried using a snappi? It's a diaper fastener that you can use in the place of pins to hold everything together. And then you can still use the prorap as a cover, or you can use any other wrap, OR you can use a pull-on type cover (for really easy changes). My favorite nylon pull-on is made by Bummis, but I know a lot of folks use the BRU brand happily. OR you can start knitting some wool soakers!

But before I get carried away, I will reiterate my advice that you fasten the diaper with a snappi or some pins (I think most folks like the snappi better).

HTH!

Thank you for the suggestions so far Until I figure out which new covers to try, I think I'll have to use the snappi idea. The funny thing is that I use a snappi when I let my daughter play with just a diaper on, but I never really considered using it when I use the cover.

Sorry about the confusion with my name I had no idea that I was so close to someone elses! Hello veganmamma!

You'r enot the first person with a name similar to mine. I told the last mom who offered to change her name for me that it was up to her, but if people were snippy with her because they thought she was me, well that was her problem then. :LOL

What size cover are you using? My DD was a big girl, around 28lbs at a year, and 35 or so lbs when she pt'ed at 2.5, and we never grew out of the mediums. These were actually some of my favorite covers. Very trim, and never a leak.....we used these with premium prefolds and a doubler when out and about........we also tried many other covers, but these I really liked for their trimness.

So, maybe the cover you are using is too big? That is really the only thing that I can think of. A couple of other covers that I found good for prefolds were Bumkins, Bumpys, and Nikkys, or if you pin, Dappi pull-ons are cheap and fabulous for what they cost. I hope this helps a little!

seemed to fix my leaking with covers problem by changing my fold. Until my son was walking I would pretty much lay the prefold in and place it where I wanted....coming back to cloth now that he is a toddler - that doesn't work any more!
It probably seems obvious to a lot of momma's but it didn't occur to me to try the fold listed in the faq section. stopped my leaks for the most part with covers! I'm waiting on a snappi in the mail today!
