I will post a picture in about 12 hours . . .check back (I'm in India and my SIL's provider only allows uploads aftetr 9PM)

My nephew has the worst rash I have ever seen and I have seen some bad ones from my dd2. This rash of his started the last day of a five day trip we took where he was in sposies. He is usually in cloth. The weather at this place was very cool, so no heat rash was involved. The last day he got a normal pink irritant diaper rash. On the plane he started screaming and was inconsolable and we checked his diaper, didn't see anything, and assumed it was ear pressure. He screamed for 45 minutes. Finally got off the plane and he had a poop way down where we couldn't see it from diaper checks. That was 2 days ago. The rash is getting worse every day. Today there are three blisters the size of my thumb full of water around his scrotum area on his inner thighs. He has a general raised red rash solid covering the area where the skin comes together when he stands up from his thighs back to his buttocks. He also has a small scabbed area about the size of my thumb where the skin tried to heal. Since returning 2 days ago he's been diaper free or just very lose coverless diapers that are changed very often. His mom has put zinc oxide cream and for pain some benzocaine (sp? the numbing stuff) and Tylenol. He's going to the doctor today but I wanted to get your opinion on this. We expected it to get better but it's getting worse every day. It is not candida- I have seen that and this is something completely different.

Thanks mamas, for any help and advice you can give. Check back in a few hours and I will try to get a photo up.

I just checked the Dr. Sears site, and thought his description of impetigo sounded similar:
(from the site, http://www.askdrsears.com/html/8/T081400.asp)

Impetigo - this occurs when bacteria invade the damaged skin.

* Appearance - coin-sized blisters or red raised patches that ooze a honey-colored crust.

* Treatment - prescription antibiotic ointment as well as the above general measures.

You know that sounds exactly like what he has! Thanks! My guess was a bacterial infection secondary to the primary rash. I'll be back with an update after the doctor visit and a photo.

Your certainly welcomed . . . I hope his little bum is feeling better very soon!

Also, I searched "Impetigo" through Google and a few of the sites said the rash may be very itchy. Maybe some warm soaks in mild salt water would help?

Ds had that. Which is the reason I switched him to cloth at 2 month old, as soon as I could. He was sensitive to chlorine in sposies.
Hope he finds some relief!

I looked at some pics of Impetigo and it doesn't quite look like that after all. The blisters look like what comes after touching a hot surface. Very high and full of fluid and still intact. The other parts of the skin are weeping fluid a little bit.

Back from the doctor several hours ago. He was a man of few words, but basically said it was an allergic reaction, and then a secondary bacterial infection. So you were right!
It looks so bad but hopefully will be better very soon. Poor baby. Pics added to the first post above.

This looks like what happened to my dd not too long ago. Same exact situation, she pooped, but I couldn't see it! She had blisters and weeping wounds. I used Bag Balm and Bordreux's Butt Paste. Oh, and I also put neosporin on the weeping areas. Just keep doing what you're doing. It will get better. Poor guy.

I hate to mention this but my sons secondary bacterial infection was actually staph--cleared up with medication. The reason I mention it is because staph can look like the skin has been burned--in fact it is called scalded skin syndrome and that is what happened to my son. Did the dr. give a medication? I'd consider something with hope of killing staph if you can get ahold of it (high quality silver? coconut maybe....not sure...I hope he is better soon).

This looks a lot like what my son has....foliculitis (sp?)

Ironically, he got it from his cloth diapers. Build up I think.

Anyway, we are putting Bactroban on it to prevent infection.

I hope you get answers soon. Poor little man, mine screams with his too, almost anytime his diaper gets too wet or he poops.

Oh wow, I hope it's not staph! The doctor gave both oral and cream antibiotics to clear it up so he must have thought it was a pretty bad infection. He actually winced when my SIL took off the diaper.
