Hi ladies....
I'm living on the same property as my mother...(I pray daily for patience)...and have my little boy due in August. She is stuck on the notion that I NEED diaper services because she doesn't want all the babies poo in her septic system....
Any suggestions? I've looked, but to no avail....(Oh, I'm on Aquidneck Island)

If no suggestions...then I will be searching for cloth diaps on the internet...and would kindly appriciate suggestions in that direction....
Thanks...

Doesn't want poo in the septic system? Does she realize how ridiculous that sounds?

Seriously, the poo can go in the trash if it's that big of a deal!!! I don't know of any diaper services, but it is really no biggie to launder your own CDs. It actually sounds like more of a pain in the neck, frankly, to deal with a service. But that's just em :)

God bless you for living that close to your mom -- I would be going :

Oh yes...I know how ridiculous it is. I promised I'd look into someone picking them up - knowing it is a little too frivilous for myself to spend money on - when I can do it my darned self....

I'm pretty sure this living situation won't last too long - but I'm trying my hardest to hold my tongue, and bear with the woman....

Where's best to find them? I'm going to start checking ebay....but, maybe y'all have better suggestions??

If you can't find a service and she'll let you wash the diapers there, I highly recommend www.zannadu.com to buy diapers. I have a discount code if you're interested. The owner of Zannadu is going to be adding gently used diapers and merchandise returns to her site so you'll be able to buy them at a huge savings.
You can email her if you are intersted in the second hand stuff and she'll tell you what she has.

I don't know of any diaper service in the RI area anymore.

I've done quite a bit of looking, and I'm nearly positive there are no diaper services in RI. There is only one in all of Mass, as far as I know, and they don't come this far. Tell your mom that all cloth diaperers in the state do their own wash.

Is her problem really the poo, or is her concern that all the water used to wash the dipes will overwhelm a septic system?

I looked into a diaper service 2 years ago when I thought it would help out a little w/ having a newborn in the house, and I could not find any.
There was one in MA but they sounded really scared at the thought of coming all the way to RI!

Good luck with your septic system/no poo issue!!!

Even if you end up using disposables please don't throw poo in the trash. Even on the disposable box the instructions say to throw the poo in the toilet- not the trash.
Unfortunately there isn't a diaper service in RI, as pp have said. Is your moms concern that the diapers will make her machine dirty? If that's the case, offer to do a load of your *regular* laundry after you do a load of diapers.
Hopefully you can work something out with your mom. Maybe it's worth doing coin op? I don't know. We use coin op and cd but don't have a choice.

Wow -- you are going to have to give me an education on this one -- why not? I need you to make me informed!

Is it the lesser of two evils to use disposables rather than CD and put the poo in the trash?

Our landfills are not equipped to handle human waste, therefore, baby poo in a diaper is unhealthy in the landfill.

The same goes for pet waste, too!

When everything starts breaking down, the poo goes into the groundwater systems. Even sposies say to flush the poo, yet 99% of people don't. I think cd people are way more conscious about this instead of making little tightly wrapped poo "bombs."

There isn't a diaper service in RI. Try ebay or diaper swappers for used stuff really cheap. My personal fave is diaper swappers. Once you get enough posts and time here, you can use the trading post here on MDC to buy used diapers for cheap. We don't NEED to buy used but I can't see spending the money on brand new stuff when used works just dandy thank you!

Here's another thought, if you breastfeed the baby poo isn't stinky until they start eating formula.

and....you can always use disposable liners in your cloth diapers, I used to have some, I think they were rice paper liners....also, when the poo is more formed, using a fleece liner makes taking the poo off the liner easy peasy(as long as it's formed and you don't mind using fleece).

I live in northern RI. I am not currently making daipers, but still have some used ones and new seconds I'd love to pass on. or just to look at the different styles, aio, fs, ss, wool, etc just pm me if you like :)
