Diaper Sizes/Clothing Sizes

Okay, I'm at a loss for a question that has recently been put to me. I think it is because it seems there really isn't a 'universal' answer.

Those of us who have cd'ed even one child knows the flustered feeling of trying to determine clothing to diaper sizing. I have recently gone through this when contemplating at Children's Place and The Gap (good sales this week
) just WHAT size Kenny will wear next year - trying to take into account his diapers/diaper covers.

I used to teach CD 101 at my local Bradley Instructor's class and this question is always asked. What clothing 'size' babies/toddlers will need to wear for the different diaper sizes. Girls are somewhat different and I'm remembering Meredith to wear size Medium Fuzzi Bunz until she was about 18 months old - she is a skinny one though. During that time she was in quite a broad clothing range - from 9 months to that 18-24 months stage.

So, what do your babies wear? Cloth diaper to clothing size?

When my Kenny was wearing a medium diaper (he's in a large now at 18 months) - he was about 9 - 12 months or so. Then, his mediums started getting snug (but he's beefy). Now that he is in a large diaper he is also wearing 18 month + clothing (no bigger than 2T).

What is your experience?

Libby's in a large diaper and 3T dresses and 3T shirts and 2T/3T shorts/pants.

She's 18 months, 27 1/2 lb and 34 1/2" tall. The height is our kicker

Kimberly, do you buy pants that snap at the stride? I'm finding it easier with Kenny to just do elastic waist and pull 'em up and down.
: The snaps seem to come UN-snapped. Which is so irritating! I need to get Kenny's height ... hmmmm.

Saige is 26 months. She wears large diapers and usually wears 2T. She is about 32 inches tall and 27lbs. She's a little on the short side.
My babe is 9 mo., 26 lbs., amd probable 32 inches at this point. He wears large diapers, or premium cpf, and 18 mo. to 2T, depending on the clothes. My boy is big and tall, with pudgy arms and legs and a (relatively) slimmer trunk, so I just go by the weight on the clothing tags and that has worked just fine for us. I suspect if he was more petite, the dipe would make more of an impact in his shape and I might have to size up a size.

Haley is 19 months, 24 pounds and 34 inches tall (a month ago so she may be a little taller and heavier now) She wears med diapers and 18-24 month clothes
Ryan is 27months and he is 26lbs and 33 inches...... he wears some mediums and some large dipes....... now for cloths he can wear an 12-18 shirt adn shorts...... but i bought 18-24 and theya re huge on him........but he is a short little guy
Julia is bitty girl. She's 17.5 mos. 20lbs and 31" She wears 12-18 mos in clothes, but is starting to outgrow the height on them. I tried an 18-24 mos dress on her and she swam in it. It was humungo
So I think I'll stick with 12-18mos, even if the dresses are a bit short. She wears mostly mediums in diapers, but can fit in a small Firefly, and yesterday I discovered she fits well into a small El Bee!

Ds is 8.5 months old, 26+ inches tall, 16-18ish pounds. (His next ped appt is in a few weeks.)
Diapers:
He's wearing premium prefolds, SP1's, occasional small FB during daytime and med FB at night. I can barely squeeze him into infant pf's. He's been wearing all of the above for the last 4 months (since we started cd'ing).
Clothes:
He's wearing a few 3-6mo Old Navy onesies, but they're finally getting snug. Then we have 6-9mo ON onesies, which still have room to grow. Sleepers are 6-9mo, Carter's, etc. Ds is on the 'small' side (or so the dr tells us), so he tends to fit clothes in the range they're supposed to. Even with the cd butt. I have no idea what we're going to clothe ds in when he outgrows the easy sleepers.

I only get elastic waist pants... since I have a girlie girl, I tend to get those cotton knit pants (think Old Navy, Gap, Children's Place) with flare legs... like....
These, but knit, not denim

She's got a big cd butt, but with the stretchy knits, it's ok.... she's just TALL too

I don't know what you do for boys though, cause boys can't really do the cutesy little flare leg stuff

My guy is a chunk, he is 6 months old, wearing large diapers, and roughly a size 12 month in clothing. I'm not sure how heavy he is but I'll guess lower to mid 20s. Notta clue how tall he is. Heighth is the main thing I take into consideration when buying baby clothes, I know which brands accomodate fluffy bums and gravitate to them.
Ben is 11 months, 25+ pounds (the scale I used to weigh him one only goes to 25 lbs and at 11 months we can no longer use that scale), has 12-inch thighs, wears Kisslauvs size 2 on the middle snap setting, and wears 18 months size clothes. He's a chunky monkey so we have a hard time with clothes. He can wear 24 month onsies, but we gave up on pajamas months ago - their cut to fit tight, and the larger sizes are twice as long as he is, I swear. It's a good thing it's summer because he can wear shirts and soakers. Last winter I had him wear one-piece outfits. We've never been able to wear pants or shorts - I don't think he could hardly wear them naked, much less with a cloth diaper.
i guess ellie's a peanut. she's just growing into 12-18 mos size stuff at 15-mos. she's 20-lbs and 30" and in mostly mediums (though she can wear small fireflies and elbees and perhaps other smalls, but i haven't tried it).

See, this happened with my Meredith - skinny winny in the waist, but ended up needing the length. But then I ran into the problem of not being able to put her into anything that had matching top and bottom 'sets.' I bought separates or did dresses with bloomers.

Edited to say: THANK YOU for all the answers - even with variance in sizing, it seems that many of the age/sizes are still somewhat 'true.'

That is one of the reasons we went back to cpfs and FFQD when out and about. I can pull a pair of elastic waist khakis on Kenny in size 18-24M - or even 2T if I roll the legs, but he isn't fitting into other things as well ... like outfits sold as a 'set' or overalls that aren't 2T.

Girls are much easier to cd, IMO than boys when it comes to finding something to put OVER the diapers. Of course, at home (where we are primarily) he's basically naked and in a diaper! :LOL

DS is 23lbs 30"tall and wears medium or large diapers depending on the maker. He is 11 months old and wears his 9-12month clothes with room to grow. Cloth diapering hasnt effected what he wears at all. We use fitteds and trim wool covers and I have never had to size him up.
:LOL Umm ... SEEPAE, I know I've been sort of out of pocket (diaper joke :LOL) a bit ... but what in the world does your DDDDC ~ the whiskered beast of effluvium mean? I'm laughing and I don't know why! :LOL

Wesley is short and fat. He can only wear sweatpants and overalls, generally a 3T. For the summer he is wearing 3T shorts that look like ghetto capris on him
: I see them fitting next year as well when he gets taller and continues to thin out (he is 18 months and 34 pounds)

Ellie has been growing at the top of her charts but isnt chubby besides her belly! She wears her normal size range, with the obvous stuff out of the question. Those diaper/panty covers that come with dresses dont fit over CD but wouldnt fit her thighs anyway if she was in a disposable. With Jeans I have to make sure she is in a really trim diaper but that doesnt work for us lately since she is holding and flooding!

Not too much help I guess. I am having a hard time deciding what to get when I buy ahead too. So I'm gleaning some advice.

rhiannon is 1 year old (yesterday!) and wears both medium and large diapers. she is about 23.5 lbs - not sure on height. she wears both 12 and 18 month clothes. liam is 3 1/2 and is about 40 lbs. he wears 4T clothes and XL fuzzi bunz. oddly enough, even over cloth diapers, his 4T pants tend to be too big in the waist and butt, but 3Ts are too short. its becoming and even bigger problem now that he is potty learning. he's been wearing a lot of sweats and elastic waist shorts because without the diaper butt, his 4T jeans just fall down.
