Hello,
I would like to hold a diaper swap in RI some time next month. Buy, Sell, Trade or just show off your own ultra cute diapers and get together with other cd mamas.

Any suggestions on where to have it? The last one was at the Peacedale Library, and we only had a half dozen mamas. I am hoping for a better turn out this time. I need to find a place where we can do this for free. Most libraries won't let us because of the whole selling thing. Community Centers want money, and I am not comfortable with doing it at a playground because it seems too dangerous being distracted (by diapers) in such an open place (strangers).

Where else can I post this so that the brand new mommies know about it?
And the last time I provided snacks, and brought way too much. Would it be a better idea to have everyone bring a snack to share?!

I would love any suggestions.

Dawn

I am not pregnant yet- so I have no diapers to offer, but thought I'd ask you all for advice. I'm so overwhelmed! I have looked online so much. I have figured out that I want to do prefold diapers with an assortment of covers (wool, cotton, fleece, velcro, snap, etc.) but now how do I find out what the best deal is?? Do I order online? Try to find retailers? I don't need diaper service. Alos, do you prefer pins, snappies, or none?? So much info!

i'd go to another- i am still stocking up on the small stuff.

as for the libraries, do they really need to know that there would be money involved? can't they just think it's a swap?

the rochambeau branch of the providence library is nice- it's on hope street, very conveniently across the street from small change, a children's consignment store.

hmmmm... there is also deerfield park in smithfield. it's kind of out-of-the-way, so it's not frequented by many shady characters. it's about 10 minutes off of the route 44 exit on 295.

i think the location of the last one was perhaps the cause of low attendance. i'm thinking it might be better attended if it was in providence/warwick.

I would come if it was in or near Providence. I'm a little skeptical of used cloth diapers though- mine got pretty worn out with ds's use....
I can't think of any places to have it...but libraries and maybe whole foods would be a good place to post about it.

cloth diapers can make it through a whole bunch of kids. the ones i have are hand-me-downs and while there are a few that are looking like rags, many are still okay, and all are functional.

i'm reluctant to buy used diapers online, because one mama's definition of "good used condition" can be very different from another's.

I have a lot of hand me downs too. Some are quite thin, but I think that it depends on quality and care. If you use bleach, and buy gerber they will fall apart after 4 months... Speaking from experience here. But since I got better dipes, and quit using bleach they seem to hold up pretty well.

I will look into Rochambeau. Any other suggestions for location in the Prov warwick area would be great.

I'm in Providence, as well, and I've been looking for some diaper resources nearby. I know at least one other first-time mom in Providence who is also looking for a chance to check out some diapers. Anywhere in Providence would be great.

Thursdays are farmer's market day at the park in the Armory. This would be a cool way to catch other interested people, and do your veggie shopping at the same time! There's also a farmers' market Satudays by Hope High school, if a weekday is out of the question.

We like Wilson park too, but I think we need to do it closer to providence. Blackstone is beautiful, but wide open. My little guy is a handful, and sooo ful of energy. He also never developed any stranger anxiety... SCARY! I would have a very hard time keeping an eye on him and checking out diapers. If we were to do it out doors I would be more comfortable with a not so popular fenced in playplayground, or maybe in somebody's backyard...
Hope Street sounds like it would be good too. Keep the Ideas coming. I think the Prov/Warwick area would be ideal.

Warwick public library would be a good spot for us! (My grandparents live right down the road.) It would have to be AM though...so hard to get across Warwick in the afternoon.

What's the Cranston library like?

I don't have a car on the weekdays so if it could be on the weekends or on the east side of providence it would work for me. maybe on a saturday at the hope high park? it is fenced in and behind the high school where the farmers market is.

I'd love to come!! I was going to go to the last one, but it was 3 days after I moved here and my puter was down so I couldn't figure out where it was!! Or when exactly! I'm better in the evenings too, doesn't matter wether the week or weekend!
