I didn't post this in pregnancy, because I wanted mamas who aren't pregnant but knowledgable about H&H to see it.

I'm currently 16wks pg and have had severe diarrhea since Sunday- over 25 times per day. My concern at this point is what is causing it, and how can I safely stop it? I'm drinking tons of water and urinating, so I'm ahead of the dehydration. I did just finish a course of antibiotics for a bacterial sinus infection on Saturday. But this seems worse than normal post-abx problems.

I started Acidophilus (sp?) last night- is there something else I can safely take during the 2nd trimester? I am reading mixed info on Imodium- some sites say it's fine, others say to use only if the benefits outweigh the risks. My OB (whom I adore) is out on maternity leave and I do not like or have much faith in her interim replacement, so I don't want to call and ask advice.

Any help here would be appreciated; I'm starting to get worried because it's not resolving at all. TIA!

I had the same problem around the same time! I took Immodium because I was too miserable to go on the way it was. I think it was my hormones shifting because it calmed down eventually.

Look at it this way: Normally the complaint is constipation during pregnancy... I didn't have to deal with it and it looks like you won't either. As much as diarrhea is no fun I'd rather have that and know I'm regular and whatnot than deal with constipation for several months!

If it gets worse (bleeding or you get weak or something) see a doctor...but, honestly, you'll probably be fine soon. Take something if you are really miserable...
