I am now a little over 32 weeks and I have a little bit of B&H here and there but nothing that stayed. Well last night I started having some pains at around 5pm. They didn't let up and kept me up all night some of them just felt like pain across my lower back and pressure in my bum area. I kept waking up just not fealing good and bugged and the babies were going nuts, moving more than they have before. So at about 6am I went and took a warm bath to see if that would stop things and it did slow them down but the one's I did get were now stronger. So at about 10:30am I called my Doc. and he was not in and doing surgeries all day but the nurse told me to go in and get monitored. I went in and for the first 20 or so min. was showing nothing so the nurse changed the monitor position and then they started showing up.
I was there for about a hour and they said they counted 4 good contractions but I need to have 6 in a hour before they can call it labor. I don't think they considered the fact that the monitor was not picking any thing up for the first 20+ min. and I know I at least had one in that time and I had one when I was just getting hooked up. Well they gave me a steroid shot and said I need to come back tomarrow to get a second one. Has any one had this shot and has it made a big difference in the babies not having to stay in the NICU as long? Have you had hard strong Contractions before and they stoped?
I am still having some good ones but I realy want them to stop so I don't have babies in the NICU. The doc. that came in to see me also said that it would be unlikely for me to go to 38 weeks like my Doc. wants me to because I have had so many children in the past.
O yea I have now been put on bed rest.
If I do have to be addmited into the hospital do you think they will do all the can do to stop things at this time or will they just give me more steroid shots to try and get the babies lungs more developed?
Thanks for any info

I did get the shots. I had been in preterm labor at 28 weeks and was put on bedrest then. My boys were born at 34 weeks with no NICU time. They were in the special care nursery, on the O2 hood for one day, the next day they were on room air and that's pretty much it.

I got the shots at 27 weeks when I started to dilate. At 30 weeks I delivered twin girls. Alivea was never on a vent but did have to go on a CPAP a few days after birth for less then a week and Kaytlin was on a vent for 6 hours after birth and then room air the remainder of the time. I do think they work, everyone I have talked to who had them in time seemed to have good results.

I had the shots at 27 weeks and delivered at 29. My girls both had respiratory distress syndrome anyway. Kate started on a vent and Lilly started on CPAP. It was a long road but they are fine now. They say the steroid shots are "good" for a 2-week window, and I always wonder if they had worn off when I gave birth, or whether they were still effective and my girls would have been much worse off without. We'll never know.

As for your other question, if you are admitted in PTL at 32 weeks, they will do whatever they can to stop labor. Usually until 35-36 weeks, from what I've experienced/seen others experience.

Good luck and keep those babies cooking!

I forgot to answer this..

With me, yes, they did stop the labor. I am pretty sure I got the shots around 28 weeks? I was also admitted to the hospital and they stopped the labor (I was put on Procardia). They wanted me to make 34 weeks, after 34 weeks, my OB would not stop labor. I had them at 34w2d.

I had the shot at 32 or 33w, and my boys were born at 34w. I think it was helpful. Nobody was on O2 but they were in the NICU learning to suck.

(that phrase always makes me

Yes, had the shots. First round went in at 32w6d, second at 33weeks. Two days prior I had an ob appointment and wasn't dialated at all. By the time I got to the hospital (bh type contrax every 4 minutes for several hours) I was 1.5 cm dialated, 50% effaced and my ffN test came back positive. Spent 4 days on a mag dripe, which did slow the contrax. But they picked back up then my water broke at 33w5days.

Babies didn't go to the NICU, just special care nursery. Never needed supplimental oxygen.

Best of luck to you, stay put babies!!

I did. I had a history of preterm labor, was on strict bedrest with a terb pump and bouced in and out of the hospital for "contracting over my threshold". At 31 weeks, it was so bad I was admitted, put on a near toxic dose of mag sulfate and given the shots. I delivered 48 hours later, at 31+2 weeks. The babies never needed to be intebated.

I did around 31 weeks, had contractions and dialated 2cm. They also gave me magnesium and after 4 days went home with muscle relaxers. Went on bed rest until 36 weeks and then actually got induced at 38 weeks due to HBP. None of the docs thought I'd make it that far. So you can prove them wront too. Good luck!

I don't have multiples, but I went into PTL at 31 weeks with DS1, they stopped the labor and gave me the shots. He was better than anyone expected when he was born at 35 weeks.

I can't say 100% that the shots helped, but I believe they did. He still needed a vent but that had more to do with shock and swelling from multiple surgeries than with lung development.

Thanks for all the info. I am still having the contractions on and off. I will get some good contractions some times for hours and then they just stop. I have noticed that I get way more of them when I walk for more than 15 or so min.
I at least want to get to July. I have had 7 children so they think I will come early but I have alway been on time or over due with all of my others so I guess we will see.
Thank you again
