We have a Boulevard in my car. I am pretty anal about car seat safety so we wouldn't want to just buy a cheap seat for the other car (because then I would never want him in it and that defeats the point!) We had the infant seat in there until he grew out of it. What do you guys do? Do you buy another one for the other car? Right now I always have to drive everywhere when DH is off and we go some place. I guess it isn't THAT bad, but I can definitely see benefits of not having to do that! Thanks.

Yeah, and $300 is a nice chunk of change for an extra seat. Maybe I am just dreaming!

We have two Britax's for DD1, have since she moved out of her infant seat. One is always in my van, and the second is usually in DH's car but gets moved around to grandma's car, etc...

I'm starting off with just one seat for DD2, she has a new Reacro Signo pre-ordered,
: figuring that she won't be going off with DH and DD1 for quite sometime to come (without me), and when we go out as a family we take the van. When she gets older then I know I'll end up with a second seat for her.

Hi, I'm a CPST.

ALL seats sold in the US must meet the same safety standards. "Cheap" seats may not be as cushy and they may not be as easy to install, and most of them have lower weight limits and lower harness slots, but as long as the seat fits your child and is securely installed, it is perfectly safe to use.

I would personally prefer to install a "cheap" seat in a second car than switch a primary seat back and forth -- I think there's a lot less chance of user error if the seats are tightly installed and they STAY installed.

I'm a little confused about the wording in your OP -- does your DH ever drive your car?
No, he doesn't. Dunno why, we just don't drive each other's cars.

The kids only ride in my car. We do have one extra cheap seat we bought for flying - the britax marathon being way too bulky and heavy to lug through an airport. But we haven't used it since we moved and stopped flying except to loan to my cousin when she flies in and needs a spare seat.

It's just never been an issue really. It happens so rarely that we need to have the kids in seperate cars that we just move the car seat. And I don't feel its that hard to install a car seat properly - as long as you know what properly means.

I've had 2 sets of seats for Owen since he was about 4 months old (before that we used the infant seat and had 2 bases installed). Then I bought a Marathon for my car. He rides in Grandpa's vehicle sometimes so I tried just switching the seat when needed (pretty much every weekend). That lasted about a month but it was a PITA and I was so afraid of not installing it correctly. So I bought a Graco ComfortSport to put in Grandpa's vehicle. He got about 2 1/2 years out of it before outgrowing it. By then I'd saved up enough money to get him another Britax (would have done it sooner but didn't have the money). Now he's in a Regent in Grandpa's van and a Marathon in my car. When we move he'll be switched to the Regent in my car and the Marathon will be for Dylan

we currently have a roundabout in my car and a Boulevard in my partner's car. while I was SAHMothering, we didn't have a seat in her car. As soon as i went back to school and he started in daycare, we bought the Boulevard. We are going to replace the Roundabout with a Boulevard at some point in the not so distant future.

my mom has a Cosco Scenara in her car, and my best friend is going to get one for her car soon too.

We have separate carseats for each car. DS rides once or twice a week in DH's car (he thinks the change is exciting). I'm way too lazy to switch them back and forth.

For us, we went with 2 very similar seats (we started with a Boulevard and a Roundabout, but switched to a Safeguard seat when he outgrew the RA rearfacing). However, there are plenty of less expensive seats that are wonderful as a second seat. I just knew DS would outgrow a standard seat too early, so I wanted something with a higher height and weight limit right from the start (He's almost too tall for the RA already, so it's on hold for DS2)

We each have a car, but only mine has seats in it. If we go somewhere as a family, we always take mine. if DH ever takes DD1 somewhere, I just put her marathon in his car, but that really only happens maybe once a month. We have 2 Recaro Signos on pre-order, and I am buying 2 Safety 1st Uptowns, ($100) so we have lightweight seats for travel or for DH's or grandma's car.

I have 4 sceneras, two in each car.

I really can't say enough good things about the Scenera....I got RID of my Britaxes b/c I just didn't like them. I used them twice. Complete waste of money IMO. They were harder to install, harder to use, and too high up to get a BIG boy RFing in a car compared to the Scenera.

However I am waiting on the Signos to come out!

Blvd in my car, no other seat. I just have DH drive my car if I don't feel like it. But he's thinner than I and so sometimes I drive to get a break from squishing in next to the Blvd
The shotgun seat is pushed way the heck up to make room to tie the tether.

my feelings exactly.

not to mention that when the seat is in my husbands and MILs car (we have a seat in every car they ride in regularly) they are more likely to be used and used properly.

I agree that it shouldn't be removed. It took me forever to get it in there so that I was satisfied that it wasn't going anywhere.

BUT, I don't want to buy a cheap seat and have him outgrow it sooner. Plus Britax seats exceed safety ratings.
