I am still breastfeeding my third child who is 19 months. I had trouble getting pregnant with #2 and #3 ( both were breastfed until 3 months into my subsequent pregnancy) but minor hormonal tinkering helped those times ( first time jump started with provera, second time one month of BCP) neither of which worked this time, so my dr started me on clomid. I took it CD 3-7, I am now CD 19 and OPK are negative so far, but lots of EWCM...

Starting to wonder if Clomid is going to work for me, maybe I need to wean my little man completely, I am older now, 35, maybe things just aren't the same.

Just wanted to see if anyone been successful getting pregnant while breastfeeding and taking Clomid?

Everything I have read states you should ovulate by 9 days after your last clomid dose? Anyone ovulating later? I don't want to keep doing OPK if there is no chance of getting a positive, they tend to be a little on the pricey side?

Thanks in advance for all your replies!

Amanda,

Do a search for clomid and nursing. There have been some threads on it and some women have gotten pregnant. I am nursing a 21 month old and am on my first clomid cycle. I took it CD5-9 and am now on day 11 and waiting for ovulation. I spoke with my lactation consultant and she confirmed that clomid is safe while nursing, but may lead to a decrease in milk supply (which thankfully hasn't happened for me). However, nursing may still decrease your fertility so that clomid doesn't work.

Here's to hoping we both prove that you can get pregnant while nursing with clomid!!

Thanks Julia'sMom,

I did do a search and read prior posts on the subject, I also checked out fertility friends chart gallery and found that somewhat encouraging. I am now on CD 20 with continued - opk tests, and EWCM is gone, temps are still down, but I am beginning to guess that it is just not going to happen. New plan is to cut back on nursing, and when we come back from a vacation in 2 weeks, really try to taper him off . I nursed my first son until 3, second son 2 1/2 . I feel not so great about cutting #3 off before he is 2, but at the same time I look at the bigger picture and see that adding another kid to our family is important.

I hope that you are successful this cycle

I conceived on clomid while nursing - 150mg days 5-9. I ovulated around day 21 I think. Honestly I didn't use OPKs, just planned to not skip more than one day in between sex. This is the same way DS was conceived, same dosage, same O day, everything, except this time I was nursing. He is still going strong and I'm 25 weeks

Good luck to you!
