I hated the clothes at the hospital, it doesnt seem like a baby can keep warm enough in just a little undershirt and a blanket. So i took some gowns, socks and caps for ds. I also took my own blankets.

I took pink sleepers because I was so excited that we were having a girl! I was also afraid that she would be cold. But I had a wonderful nurse who had been nursing for I think 40 years and she showed me how to take a long-sleeved hospital shirt and flip it so that it served as a pair of pants, LOL.

If you're comfortable in a nightgown, your baby is almost certainly fine in a t-shirt and blankets. the rule of thumb is one more layer than you're wearing. Overheating is associated with SIDS, and my kid was almost always in just a t-shirt, diaper and blanket at first.

If you check their temperature, it's almost always fine in the blanket/t-shirt. Their hands and feet will always be cold even if their core temp is fine; it's just newborn circulation.

Baby was never out of arms at the hospital so that helped keep him warm, but I did bring my own clothes for him. It was more for fun than practicality. I wanted to dress him up
I think the baby would be fine either way. The hospital was a comfortable temperature for a baby in a shirt, swaddling blanket, and cap.

We took a nightie and cap set, and socks. Let's just say I didn't understand the physics of dressing a newborn (in fact, I didn't get the hang of it until she wasn't a newborn anymore
) and the clothes were ill-chosen. The kimono thing actually worked out better. Also, it was a zillion degrees in our room and we had no way to change it. The kimono and a receiving blanket were almost too much.

They gave her a little t-shirt after her first bath (4 hours old), and I had brought my own diapers. We were there for 12 hours. She stayed in her t-shirt until we were leaving and then I put her in her homecoming outfit.

our hospital was a little chilly because i was VERY hot after birth (even though it was just starting to get cold in chicago when ds was born)......i'm not sure why, but we had the a/c on and i didnt want ds getting to cold.

i didnt overdress him, but im a hot blooded person anyway, so i always dress him in more than me. I wear one layer in 20F......which obviously isnt sensible for a baby.

We stayed for 52hrs technically, but 24hrs of that was in the labor dept. I didnt overwrap ds..... the nurses kept coming in and puting more blankets on him, and as soon as they left i would take them off again.

That's mainly for cold weather.
It's not as much of an issue when it's warm. OT, but it drives me nuts to see little babies around here in footed pajamas and hats and blankets. It's Hawaii! It's 80-some-odd degrees, and Mama and Daddy are wearing cut-offs and t-shirts.

Anyway, back to the topic. I just used the hospital's clothes. Except with Esther, she had her own hats. She had kinda a small head, and the hat they gave her kept falling off. That was the second time I'd taken my yarn & hooks, but only the first time I actually got the chance to make anything in the hospital! I made three little hats for her while we were there.

DD was born in Vegas so I wasn't worried about her being cold! Although we took clothes for her to wear, she wore the hospital clothes. DS was born at home!

Yes, until he got blood and pee all over it (I was a little eagre to dress him
) we weren't planning on going to the hospital after his birth, so I didn't have any bags packed- he wore the one outfit I had laid out for him and that was all we brought- we had to wear the little hosp gown home since he had no clean clothes and was born in the winter.

Well, I was extremely out of it due to PPD and 36 hours with scant amounts of sleep. So untill they bathed dd, she was in this flimsy t-shirt that is basically paper, a diaper, and blankets and a hat. For her bath I sent them a gown to put her in and they did, and I think she stayed in that the rest of the time till it was time to go home.

This time around I'm taking precautions against the PPD, and I plan on having cloth diapers and my own hats and my own clothing for the babe. I will even be finding out if the nurses would be willing to put all my stuff on the babe when he/she is first born, I really don't want that paper shirt on my baby.

Ditto, we couldn't take the hospital shirt off until we were ready to go home.
