I can't vote because ds2 is a 3y2m old nursling and still didn't reach 5x his birthweight :).
And Ds1 didn't self-wean because he weaned during my second pregnancy due to loss of milk. At 19,5 months he hadn't reached his 5x birtweight yet.

You also forgot to give an option of "other" or "I had different experiences with different children."

I suggest that people answering the poll answer "at 5X birthweight" even if it's not EXACT, but closer to 5X birthweight than 4X or 6X.

No, but my kids are really slow growers. Only the twins are 5x their birthweight now, and they were born 4lbs 1oz & 4lbs 8oz and even so it took them 3 years to get to 5x their birthweight

I built in the pottential for more then one child by making it possible to choose more then one answer. If a family has more then one child who has experienced the same child led weaning vs age it can be noted in the discussion stream.

What other options would you have liked?

I voted no, but I think it might have been close for my first child.

My kid's birth weights were 8#11oz, 9#, and 10#. So the 5X rule of thumb would mean that they would wean at 43#7oz, 45#, and 50#.

My oldest was 6 when he weaned, and probably weighed about 40 pounds. He's now 8 and weighs 52#. My middle child weaned this year, while he was 5. He doesn't weigh 45 pounds yet and he's nearly 6 now. My youngest is still nursing, but based on his brother's weights, he won't reach 50 pounds until he's 8 or 9. I very much suspect (hope?) that he will have weaned by that time.

I'm voting no because my 6.5 month old is getting very close to 5x birthweight, and will definitely hit it by 1 year, so he won't be self weaning that young.

I did not answer the poll since we did mommy-led weaning but incidentally, mine was weaned at 5x birthweight, i.e. 35 lbs. She totally would have kept nursing, though, if I'd have let her.

Hmm, 5x birth weight. My 7 year old is just BARELY getting there - he started out at 8.5 pounds. My 5 year old still has 6 pounds to go (started out 9#3oz). Based on the growth rates of my other two kids, my baby will be 10 before he reaches 5x (he started out 9#13oz).

None of them have self-weaned. I cut them off around age 4.5.

I voted yes as both of my girls self weaned really close to that weight. My 10 lb newborn didn't wean until 5.5 yo, and just over 50 lbs. My 8.5 lb baby weaned at 4.5 yo and about 40 lbs.
