I just don't remember how I felt when AF returned with ds--he was 5 months old, nursing day and night, no solids, and af showed up--I can't remember if it was just out of the blue or if I had warning signs. DD is almost 8 months old, and I keep feeling like my period is just around the corner, but then nothing. I've had a couple of twinges that feel like ovulation pain, but they took place weeks apart. I've felt crampy and kinda bloated off and on, and just positive that I'll find blood on my undies every time I go to the bathroom. I'm not temperature charting--dd is up way too much in the early morning to get accurate readings. I do check my cervical fluid, but it doesn't seem to indicate anyting one way or the other. I have eggwhite here and there, then creamy, then sticky--no discernable pattern.

DD is eating a few solids, but only tiny amounts, still nursing at least 3 times a night. Could my body just be gearing up and trying to ovulate, but the hormone levels just aren't quite there?
I'm totally happy to not have to deal with af, and that I've gotten a longer break this time, just kinda wondering what's going on.

Has/is anyone else experiencing/already experienced something similar

Yes, I think this is very very normal! Not to worry.

I think you hit it right on the nose! And once you *do* get your first ppaf, you may not ovulate for a while, and might still experience that "gearing up".....only monthly! (That's how it's been for me since July! No ovulation, but that feeling like it could happen any time for a week or two, and then I bleed a week or so later!)

Thanks, mamas! I did some online research and found out that pms-type symptoms, cramping, etc. can go on for months, on and off, until af finally arrives. I'm keeping pads in my diaper bag all the time now, just in case.

I felt like af was going to show up for months. It seemed to take my body a long time to get back to normal the second time around with my dd being an around the clock nurser. My first started sleeping 12 hours at night at four months and af quickly followed.

I have those feelings off and on... crampy "almost" ovulation feelings.

With dd, AF came back at 6mo pp but I was pumping while at work p/t and nursing when not at work. In addition, she slept through the night starting at 2w old! We started solids at 6mo, although it was only a snack per day.

With ds, AF still hasn't returned. He eats round the clock! He will be 7mo in a week and we haven't started solids yet. Well, he's had a taste of mashed bananas twice.

I don't mind AF staying away, and would love to get the "average" 14mo off!

Well, she showed up one day before dd turned 9 months old. I'm quite sure I ovulated, too. I had the typical fertile cervical fluid pattern and my usual ovary pain all day 12 days before I af started. It's been really heavy so far, and I'm SO bloated, but less crampy than usual. I was hoping for a longer break, but I got 4 months more than with ds. DD has started eating quite a lot of solids, so I'm not surprised. At least I'll be able to keep track of my fertility now.

Me too! Every few weeks I feel PMSy and think, 'this is it...' but no AF! I am so grateful for the break, but it does freak me out just a little that I have no idea if/when I am ovulating. After 2 back-to-back pregnancies, my body needs a rest. We don't want to TTC until DS is at least 3...

DS is 6 months now, and while he does enjoy a couple 'snacks' of solids during the day, he is still a boobie fiend and has not decreased his nursing at all.
