DS, age 2.5, finally saw Diego the other day. And OH. MY. GOSH.<br><br>
It was like the only way Diego can communicate is by shouting. We're not a "TV free" family, although we do keep it minimal, so DS has seen Caillou, and much to my chagrin, he likes the New (<img alt="" class="inlineimg" src="http://www.mothering.com/discussions/images/smilies/hammer.gif" style="border:0px solid;" title="hammer">) Tigger and Pooh. We've also seen the Backyardigans for the first time, and one or two others I can't recall...<br><br>
but Jeez oh Pete! DIEGO!!! I hated it.<br><br>
Of course, wouldn't you figure that DS was thoroughly entertained <img alt="" class="inlineimg" src="http://www.mothering.com/discussions/images/smilies/lol.gif" style="border:0px solid;" title="lol"><br><br>
Anyone commiserate?

My kids also really like Dora and Diego. I personally find Dora's voice much much worse than Diego's (were is the emoticon for wanting to pull your hair out when you need it?) but I understand being annoyed.<br><br>
I do like the Backyardigans, though. My kids both love to sing and dance while they are doing just about anything, just like the characters. And the songs are not stupid Raffi-type songs.

We've not experienced Dora yet but my son loves Bob the Builder. I actually like Bob and his friends EXCEPT for Scrambler, the ATV. He has the most annoying voice I've ever heard. Arrgh!

I believe Diego is Dora's cousin <img alt="" class="inlineimg" src="http://www.mothering.com/discussions/images/smilies/wink1.gif" style="border:0px solid;" title="wink1"> Apparently there is a genetic propensity for over-excitement in their family! (Although I find Diego's sister, Alicia, more subdued.)

Yeah, Dora has twin siblings, one boy, one girl. Diego and Alicia are brother and sister and there's another grownup cousin, Daisy. It seems the girls get the calm genes in that family.<br>
Dora and Alicia are my heroes, because I've never EVER seen them hit Diego, even when he's being a patronising fart and telling them what to do. How many small girls do you know with that kind of self-control?

I can't stand Dora's voice but I don't mind Diego. My 5 y/o tells us all kinds of facts she learns from Diego, but with Dora, all I hear is "SAY MAP!!!" <img alt="" class="inlineimg" src="/img/vbsmilies/smilies/eyesroll.gif" style="border:0px solid;" title="roll">

I can handle Diego in moderation, Dora's voice is a bit more annoying to me.<br><br>
I do like the different types of music on the Backyardigans. Though it's somewhat embarrassing to realize you've been walking around singing "what do you do with a scurvy pirate?" all day. I won't let dd watch Diego or Dora. Dora because she SCREAMS everything she says. I have a problem with the way Diego treats animals. My cousin's three year old son tried to pick a snake up in their yard (it was a copperhead) after he watched the show where Diego saves the anacondas by draping them around his neck and taking them to water. My cousin had to explain that even though we are experiencing a drought, we can never pick up snakes, not even to take them to water. And that just because Diego does it, doesn't mean that he can.

I find it kind of cute that she counts in spanish and english, and has a great fascination with the word "abre". So, while their voices are annoying as all get out I appreciate that there is some content, rather than say the Simpson's or something ~ a favorite of some of my older children. <img alt="" class="inlineimg" src="/img/vbsmilies/smilies/eyesroll.gif" style="border:0px solid;" title="roll">
