diet coke during pregnancy

I love diet coke. I have had one can of caffeine free diet coke during my entire pregnancy and that's it.

But tonight.. I reallly want some! The kind I have isn't caffeiene free. Its just regular. I know diet soda in general or soda at all isnt good for us, but I also know that in moderation or every once in a while isn't a big deal.

I guess I'm looking for someone to tell me it's okay?

This would probably be it until he was born. What do you think?

I think if all you're doing is drinking one, it's no big deal, but if it's a daily habit, that's not good. Though I'm more concerned about the artificial sweeteners than the caffeine, honestly. That's just me though.

me too. I know they're not good for you. But, I also know that every once in a while isn't going to make a difference... but I still feel guilty!!

I'm a big fan of things in moderation.

One Diet Coke is not a huge deal. Everyday is anissue, probably, but one here or there... meh.

You may however find that it's not very tasty right now.

When I'm really *dying* for seweet and fizzy and NEEEeeeeeedddd a soda, I try a little root beer. Somehow, that tastes better now than Dt. Coke. And trust me, i loves me some Dt. Coke!
One Coke isn't going to hurt you or the baby. =) I also dislike the fake sugar stuff, but I also think that's probably okay if it's not something you're consuming often.
thanks for reassuring me, guys!

I ended up drinking about half a can.. it actually made me soo bloated feeling and ugh!

I think I'll go back to water.

I was just having this same problem today, but with regular Pepsi. I caved in and had about half a can. Since not having it for quite some time, it really tasted weird and not very pleasant to me. So much for cravings.

I don't think one will hurt. I get huuuuuge cravings for coke...and not diet, but I can't drink it, because A. I have a kidney stone and even one soda aggravates it terribly
and B. Anything with carbonation gives me the most wretched acid reflux right now.
So, enjoy that coke on me, please.

Like a pp stated, I wouldn't be too concerned with the coke itself, but more so the aspartame or Splenda which is probably in it.

exactly - I avoid fake sugars like the plague when pregnant or not. There are studies in Europe that link them to health problems (hasn't been studied in preg I don't think), but the US ignores them. Maybe go ahead and switch to normal Coke.

When I was pregnant with all my kids, the dietitian, the OB doc and nurses all said limit it to 1 can a day because of caffeine.
mmmm love me some soda

Honestly Moderation is the key with caffine but with artificial sweetners I would say NOWAY drink a regular coke instead
