That seemed almost unbelievable to me, then I realized that that's how it would be in the United States, with any other drug. Vaccines are the only drug in the U.S. that doctors can prescribe without any fear of medical malpractice liability.

Doctors are not sued if a medication causes some side effect that was not disclosed by the drug company.. Drug companies do. Furthermore, doctor in US are allowed to use med off the label.

You can;t sue a doctor for a predictable side effect either. You can sue for a medication prescribed for a wrong condition or in wrong dosage.

Actually, the major legal was the lack of adequate information about the vaccination, and the fact that it was not apparent to to parents that the vaccination was mandatory......not the vaccination itself.

As for adverse events, any reaction with a possible correltation to vaccination is counted as an adverse event, even WITHOUT proof that there was acutal causation as well. Actually, there are studies out there that have found that there is no correlation between specific vaccinations and certain alleged adverse events, e.g. Hep B vaccination and multiple sclerosis: http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/11172163
