Someone that lives a couple blocks away has a dog that has no back legs, it has a wheel chair cart. They walk there dog several times a day. They seem like good pet owners, he is a black lab or a mix of lab. I do not know the dog well.

I am not sure what house they live at. We have chatted only a few times. I know the dog is very friendly.

The owners are aging. in there mid 60s. Very nice people so far as I know.

I just noticed Farly (dog in wheel chair). High tailing it down the road with his wheel chair..sans owners. It was actually kinda funny looking because he was running down a hill and the cart was going faster then he could.

I went outside and called him over, he came right up the walk, I walked him to the back yard and put him in the yard, we have a 6ft privacy fence.

What do I do now? We do not have an Animal Control here, I wouldn't feel comfortable calling them anyways, I am sure this was an accident, I am super sure his leash broke off at the collar, he always has a collar on, but he doesn't right now, so maybe he slipped out of it?

So i do not know the owner's number. I don't want them to think I just locked their dog in my yard, but I don't want him getting hurt running around crazy outside.

I can't let him in the house, because I cannot pick him up, I am too pregnant for that right now, and I don't see how he could get up on the porch steps in the cart. I do not want to mess with the cart at all, it all seems complicated looking.

So Shall I just sit out on my porch or something until I see someone?

Most of the neighbors I do know are at work or freakshows that I wouldn't talk to anyways.

Hmm. I really do not want to sit on my stoop for hours either. He has shade and water, I am not going to give him food because I have no clue what he eats.

Farly is very sweet though, But If I sit in the back with him, then I won't be able to watch the front street to see if his humans come by.

And I thought I was set for a boring day here.

Could you go for a walk in the direction of the people who own the dog, and ask anyone you come across if they can direct you to the right house?

I have decided to wait.. I will wait until 3pm and then go talk to my awesome neighbor Rich, who lives 2 houses down and knows everyone.

He gets home from work around 3. He will take the dog home. I tried to call his cell but he didn't answer.

I would do the flyer thing but I don't think its a matter of them never getting there dog back, just a matter of me figuring out where they live.

I would go for a walk if I was allowed, but im on mild bedrest right now.

Could you staple some "dog found" flyers to nearby telephone poles?

This would be my suggestion, if talking to other neighbors doesn't work.

Leave a window open so you'll hear... they'll probably be calling Farly when they come looking for him. What about calling a few of the local vets, they may recognize him from his description and be able to pass your info on to the owners.

Excellent ideas from Mummoth.

It's so good of you to keep this dog until you can reconnect him with his owners.

That is an awesome idea!! I feel silly now for not thinking of it.. all the pet owners here pretty much use the same vet.

Might just work!

I was going to suggest calling local vets as well. I can't imagine there are too many Farlys with no back legs out there and they may be able to call the owners on your behalf (I hope they wouldn't give out contact info directly, but they may do that too.)

And you are such a sweetheart for helping! If one of my dogs got out I would be thrilled if a neighbour corralled them and gave them water.

Update!

I got a hold of another neighbor who is best friends with Rich (social neighbor). He called Rich directly at work and Rich called me and told me, he was calling Farly's people, Then he called me back and said that Farly slipped off his collar and took off, they were freaking out. So he called me and told me that he gave them my address and they are on the way to come get him.

WOOT! Yay for helping Farly and not having to do much, ugh I am so lazy!

Yay, I'm glad Farley will be going home soon. It was nice of you to keep him safe until his owners could get him.

Just in case something like this happens again, many pets are microchipped, so you can take them to any vet office and have them scanned to see if their info comes up that way.

Whew! What a relief! I am sure the family is so happy that you took Farly in and kept him safe until they could come and get him.

I have a disabled dog too and would be out of my mind if he ever got out of the yard.

You are a kind soul and a good neighbor.

See they suggested that when I called the vet, but we are a one car household and my hubs had the truck So i was stuck here, anyways I am not suppose to go running out anywhere right now, plus! I would have had to pick him up to put him in the truck if I had it here, and he has to weigh a good 60-70 pounds, not good for the babies.

But it all worked out in the end, they must not have realized I was pregnant, because they thanked me for ever, then left, then came back at around 7 with a bottle of wine to say thank you!

My dh is enjoying the wine lol

So sweet of you to help! I always caught my one neighbors dog if I noticed him outside my fence and called the owners.Haven't seen *Zeus* in ages so they must have built a fence.

Oh I know it wouldn't have worked out this time, I was just throwing the information out there in case it happened to you or someone else on this thread in the future.
