We're slowly using up all the chemicals in the house and replacing with more natural cleaners..

Is there anything to replace dishwasher powder? We've downgraded from Cascade to Trader Joe's brand.

I know we should really just wash our dishes, but right now it's just not going to happen. Maybe when the rest of things get settled down...

Thanks

I've been very happy with both Ecover and Seventh Generation, though I find that Seventh Generation is a little better on the really dried-on stuff.

Actually, I'm not sure that hand-washing is more environmentally sensitive than using a dishwasher. I read somewhere that a dishwasher gets the dishes clean with less water.

Does anybody have updated info about this?

As I understand it, as long as you wait to run the dishwasher until it is really full, it uses less water than doing dishes by hand.

I haven't tried it, but I think someone around here mentioned using a couple spoonfuls of Borax along with a very small drop of regular dishwashing detergent. It's not quite chemical-free, but it's better than the dishwasher powder or tablets.
