My dd, 18 months old, will often ask for milkies when we are around the town. When I lift my shirt, she will then see something more interesting and forgets about nursing. I feel stupid, especially when I NIP, here I get ready for a nursing session, put her on breast, get a let-down and then she basically pulls and runs away. And I am left with a jet spraying from my breast on the grass... I am not feeling that comfortable NIP and this adds to my stress. To other people it may look almost as if she doesn't want to nurse but I force her and she has to run away from breast LOL. We don't have that problem at home as she is very focused on nursing at home but not in public.

What do you think???

The world is just so new, exciting, and fascinating at that age....never know what you might see. When my DD was going through that stage (it does pass...), I made a point of trying to find a more secluded place to nurse (e.g. in the backseat of the car, under a shady tree away from the action, or even tucked inside a really big sling). Minimizing distractions really helped! Can usually find places in public that are a little less distracting and away from at least some of the excitement. HTH!

I just mentioned this about whether or not to NIP an older toddler (with mine it's that he can't stop talking and leaves me dangling all milky-like for the world to see)! Slings are great for this-- but if you can't get to a quiet place or she won't help keep you covered and you're uncomfortable, personally, I think it's fair to ask her to wait until you can have privacy. and, of course, it is so great how curious and fascinated they are at this age! Too bad the weird guy across the way is fascinated with your body, though . . . grr.
