Hi,

New to this thread.
I am a big fan of stevia as a sweetner. Anybody else use it? Anybody have info on its safety with being used during pregnancy, breastfeeding and letting childern have some?

Thanks,

P.S. I love being a vegetarian.
Used to love being a vegan for 3 years and then had an ethics slide. Hope to come back to the flock someday.

From what I've read stevia is safe for anyone to use. I used it in coffee if I need sweetner in it or sometimes in ice tea if I'm craving a sweet drink. I've never used it in cooking. Do you use it in equal meassurements as sugar? Since I am diabetic it is much better for me than sugar.

Stevia is really sweet so I need a fraction of what I did with sugar. I used it for iced tea and iced coffee. Just a heaping tablespoon for a whole pitcher of tea.

I researched it about use during pregnancy and breastfeeding and, as usual, no one will commit to the safety. I just went with my gut and said to myself, "it is a natural plant that has been made into a powder, much safer to me than Equal, which the doctors all say is fine."

From what I have read, Stevia is totally safe for even very young children. I have used it for about 5 years, and love it. When my kids were younger and wanting a sweet drink, we would even just put a couple drops in water! They were thrilled, they drank more water, and felt all special. lol. Now, of course it is a little less exciting than, say, soda, but oh well...

I use it to make "vanilla milk" (with a splash of vanilla too, obvy!) for my DS, 3. I have no qualms about giving it to kids.

Thanks everyone. I love it and I just bought a big container today.
