I am so sleep-deprived I can't think straight. I have this idea of setting up the tent and sleeping outside (too cold at night to sleep without a tent) in the hopes that my babe might sleep better? Has anyone ever noticed that their babe sleeps better outside?

(I was considering purchasing sleeper car train tickets, thinking she might sleep longer if we were in motion, but I rejected that idea. It's probably too noisy for me.)

I know some people do all naps outside because they find their LO's sleep better there. Could you open the window? Sleeping in a cooler room is supposed to be healthier for us all.

I find they do. I live in Europe and a lot of women I know will even bundle the baby up in the dead of winter and let them nap in a carriage outside. As for my own experience, I've never really done that, but I do find my girls sleep really well in a tent. The only problem for us is that its daylight until 10 pm so its hard for them to settle down at their regular bedtime.

I would give it a whirl, for sure.

As mentioned by th PP, it's normal in Scandinavia for babies to sleep outside. My DD sleeps a lot better outside, she might nap for 3 hours in her stroller on the porch.

Tent sounds like a good idea!

IDK about napping, but my LO almost always *instantly* calms down when we take her outside - either in our arms, wrap, or car seat. What can I say? She is a nature lover like her mama.
I can't wait til she is old enough to go camping!

I had never heard of this, of mothers putting their babies outside to nap...HOW AWESOME...my babe loves the outdoors, just like her folks....maybe she would love one of thos little baby hammock, rocking, hanging things on the porch....coooool!!

Good luck OP, sleep deprivation is a special kind of torture...I hope you find a really awesome solution soon.

DD too!

And when we're spending the day and the lake or beach her naps are fantastic!

I even like to sleep outside.
I wish we had enough room in our teeny townhouse yard for a hammock. I would be out there every day!!!!

Oh, this is encouraging!! I will probably give it a try. I actually got some restful sleep last night and a nap today! It probably helped that I went to bed at 9:00. My dd also calms down when I take her outside, so she might like sleeping out there! I know I love my little tent!

That's interesting about outside naps, too.

In general, more exposure to natural light and natural darkness, and less exposure to indoor light, will improve ANYBODY's sleep. Our sleep cycles are so messed up in modern cultures, because of our isolation from natural day/night cycles. And fresh air and outdoor noises seem to be generally soothing to most babies. So yeah, I'd say sleeping outdoors might be a great thing to try.

I remember that from about 2 months to about 8 months, DS ONLY napped outside. He just wouldn't sleep more than ten minutes even on the breast any other way, but if I put him down in a stroller outside to sleep, he'd sleep for HOURS, and then wind up sleeping better at night as a result.

And DD1 always slept like a pile of rocks while camping. I've not been camping since the twins came, so I can't say about them.

Well, I gave it a try! She still woke up hourly, only when we were outside she also cried. At least inside she doesn't cry when she wakes up every hour. So at around 1:00 we just went back inside. I figured waking up five times crying meant that wasn't the place for her. It might have been too cold for her head, I don't know. I might try it again when it's warmer.

After we came inside, she slept a good two-hour stretch, during which I got to sleep for a little over an hour, so that's an improvement.

Whoever says co-sleeping breastfeeding mamas get a good night's sleep has not met my baby.
